Further problems found after computer message re installing your previous version of Windoze. (sic).

All is not returned as before-I had issues with IE 10, which would not work on the Charm screen and had to 'repair'.  The software for my remote camera failed, re-install.  Was unable to sync with my Archos tablet, re-install and who knows what else. Oh yes one other thing I did not use profanity in my earlier comment but instead used a bit of Olde English grammar referring to a male chicken+up. How on earth Microsoft can obliterate such a simple expression is unbelievable when one considers the variety and amount of expletives that are freely used on American TV.

Success! But most of You won't like solution. I tried all proposed methods here and at the end decided to do clean install. Also I switched from MBR to EFI boot. I had my windows instaled long time (update from win 7) and noticed that some things just don't work (for example File History, Windows explorer hanging) so I decided to clean install. I had only Office 2013 and Autocad 2014 installed when I tried update to Windows 8.1. NO drivers installed exept windows default drivers.

My installation crashed every time I tried. So I tried doing a Refresh which also crashed, did one restore that crashed, and it also deleted my OS.. Made a bootable USB tried installing from it maybe 10times got stuck at the boot logo every time then it crashed. Tried one last time and it worked somehow.

Now I have Windows 8.1 PRO installed, but the installation must be corrupted since, it crashes often, Refresh still don't work. Windows says everything I download is corrupted, so I cant download and install Radeon drivers, cant even download and install Chrome. Also have a windows update that fail 249mb. Internet explorer in desktop mode instant crash at launch, modern works.

Really need help with this...

Samo samo... after almost two weeks and hours with a level II tech support guy, the Intel 520 240GB SSD is still refusing to Secure Erase, Intel shrugs off the request for support, I do the the 8.1 installed on the 1TB HDD, but the point was to put it onto the SSD together with the application programs.

I have wiped the SSD three times, it disables, enables, uninstalls, installs, but I cannot clone the HDD 8.1 to the SSD using Intel's migration software, EaseUS, Macrium Reflect...

The purpose was to update the Win8pro 64bit install on the primary boot drive, the SSD, from 8.0 to 8.1.  The  tech support in India did get 8.1 installed on the backup HDD from which now the computer boots. 

How to get an Intel 520 SSD to install and boot up 8.1 from a now empty disk?

No help, just commiserating...

Further update:

   after an incredible number of hours spent listening to Micros...s telephone hold music, again I have been scheduled to receive a call on Nov 2 from tech support level II.

   this is written from the subject machine now with 8.1 installed.  the media center is working and the machine functions using the original Western Digital HDD onto which the original windows 7 was loaded, then updated to win 8.0pro.  At that time I installed the above SSD, migrated the OS to the SSD and using the UEFI bios had the machine booting just great from the SSD into Windows 8.0pro 64 bit....  the bootup time from the SSD is substantially faster than from the HDD which I removed from the UEFI bootup sequence.  I was happy with the system using 8.0.  I kept the HDD in the machine as a backup in the event the SSD crashed (lucky me) now the SSD is the problem.  I cannot get the 8.1 OS to migrate to the SSD and have deleted all partitions, wiped completely 3x, checked firmware updates etc etc...

   the SSD is not able to be "secure erased" for some reason only the cybergods know.  Intel refers me to a file from http://www.hdat2.com/

  I can download that .exe file, but cannot get it to install nor operate to "secure erase" the SSD.  I have used the above other software packages to attempt to scrub everything from the SSD, then clone the HDD boot drive to the empty SSD. 

   Nothing seems to work to that end... explorer / device mgr identifies the SSD, disable/enable etc, but I cannot get it to clear and accept installation of the OS...???

   How to "secure erase" the Intel SSD SC2CW240A3KS ?

   and yes, Micros..., some of us rely on our machines daily... not every third day!

I am running an ASUS P5ND mobo with the nForce 750i chipset (not officially supported by Win 8). I tried removing some software and then updated some drivers (Video, Sound) but nothing worked until I updated the nVidia Storage driver with the latest Win 7 package. Boom! Windows 8.1 is finally installing after the dreaded reboot.
