I'm getting it after freezing on "getting ready", after the reboot. I loaded fresh windows 8 and only allowed windows to patch. Running on Asus G73JH
"Couldn't update to Windows 8.1 - 0xC1900101 - 0x40017"
I have downloaded the Windows 8.1 update from the store but cannot get it to install. Each time I try, I get to the point where it is "getting my devices ready", then the PC restarts to a blue screen with error message. It then tries to recover the installation, fails, then restores Windows 8. When the system boots up after this, I get a message saying:
"Couldn't update to Windows 8.1
Sorry, we couldn't complete the update to Windows 8.1. We've restored your previous version of Windows to this PC.
0xC1900101 - 0x40017"
There is n o explanation as to why the update could be completed. Any ideas how to resolve this?

2013-10-19T04:55:47+00:00 I read in another listing by a Microsoft support team member that there is a bug in the driver update portion of install and to give them a few days to fix it. I encountered the same error number with a dell xps15, and since I am really looking forward to this update I am hoping this si solution. hope this gives you some peace of mind
I have the same error on my Dell XPS 15 as well. Hope there's a fix soon.

I uninstalled my GeForce drivers it then installed but will not let me reinstall the drivers. Going to format the PC later today back to 8 had decided to get a high spec laptop for everything, never thought I would say it, but it's a mac for me after this experience.
