I'm experiencing failure of the update between 86% - 93% of "Device Setup", the error I receive is 0x101 - 0x30018 when it resets me back to Win 8.
Ironically I could install Win 8.1 Preview with zero issues. However 8.1 RTM is giving me the device failure.
I've updated my BIOS, chipset, MB, audio drivers, video drivers, USB drivers, many different things, I still encounter this error. I've unplugged anything that is not associated with the computer running i.e. headset, APC battery backup monitor, USB plugs
besides keyboard/mouse.
Aside from updates, I have run a RAM test, CPU, GPU stress tests, checked my discs, cd rom drive; nothing is broken inside this PC, and the drivers are updating as I find updates, I still continue to receive the errors. I've also tried to view the event
viewer but I can never quite find anything that happens at the exact time that the error occurs.
Waiting for some good news of a fix...
disable windows defender before installing 8.1 and make sure to do all updates while still in windows 8, before installing 8.1
