"Couldn't update to Windows 8.1 - 0xC1900101 - 0x40017"

I have downloaded the Windows 8.1 update from the store but cannot get it to install. Each time I try, I get to the point where it is "getting my devices ready", then the PC restarts to a blue screen with error message. It then tries to recover the installation, fails, then restores Windows 8. When the system boots up after this, I get a message saying:

"Couldn't update to Windows 8.1

Sorry, we couldn't complete the update to Windows 8.1. We've restored your previous version of Windows to this PC.

0xC1900101 - 0x40017"

There is n o explanation as to why the update could be completed. Any ideas how to resolve this?

ok another update, i've recently got this error while my Windows 8 (not 8.1) was updating,

'Failure configuring Windows updates. Reverting changes. Do not turn off your computer'

it did revert just like 0x40017 error, but come on the whole thing is just getting worse and worse, first i can't update to 8.1 now i can't even have normal updates for 8? and neither problem has been resolved, one of them is almost a year old!

I too am getting the message "'Failure configuring Windows updates. Reverting changes" on my Win 8 OS.  And neither can I update to Windows 8.1 because of the 0x40017 error.  Just when I thought it couldn't get worse. Not what?

Hello Microsoft, I know you have been ignoring us, but maybe your still listening.  Yes, I'm being unrealistically optimistic.

now this new error message has been bugging me for days, every time I start my PC it tries the update and fails, takes long to revert and back to nothing!

now this is outrageous, we dont  expect you to fix that 8.1 update, but can't you at least make the normal update running without error? even if theres a error which is understandable, you can't tell your customer what went wrong, instead throwing us this useless ''Failure configuring Windows updates" **** every time things go wrong, this is UNACCEPTABLE, running through your time wasting 'customer service' wont help any but wasting our time, since when Microsoft went down the toilet and became such a company with third rate services and products???

FIX THIS!!! as a long time customer, I demand it!!!
