"Couldn't update to Windows 8.1 - 0xC1900101 - 0x40017"

Hi All

I finally managed to upgrade to 8.1

As I said, I was suspecting the problem to be related to my MoBo, a Sabertooth x79. So I uninstalled everything related to Asus, such as AI Suite II and the various utilities that the ASUS updates had installed over time. The only thing that I left was Intel's Rapid Storage.

Not only did this really improve the performance, but the upgrade from the MS store (after having done a wsreset) went ok. Haven't checked everything yet, I'm now applying the windows updates.

Happy it finally worked, especially without having to re-install all my sw.

BTW, I saw somewhere people considering Logitech's devices as a possible culprit, I have both a Logitech kpd and a mouse over a unifying wireless receiver and they remained on the system during the upgrade. So (at least for me) Logitech's not guilty...

 cool, wondering do you have Intel Management Engine Components installed before hand?

yes, had them, part of what I uninstalled before the upgrade.

So far, haven't reinstalled anything except the Asmedia USB3 drivers, because a usb3 hub didn't recognise a external hd. After reinstalling that it worked ok again. I don't intend to reinstall anything else unless something proves not to work.

Just to be complete, everything is nicely in place after the upgrade., apps, settings, etc... Even Classic Shell was left in place and works well ;-).

Only exception are the icc color profiles for my monitors which were gone. Had to re-calibrate.

cheers, one more question, what current version is your Intel's Rapid Storage? i'm holding high hope for this try, this bugs for too long.

another try, another failure despite the fact I dont have any of the above software that cause the trouble, is MS still doing some work to fix this or they gave it all up so everyone whos still struggling with this error ought to do a reinstallation of all?
