Yes I removed one of the two memory chips. Now I am running temporarily with 8GB until I receive the new pair.

The number of errors per test can be seen on the right hand side. In the middle of the screen you also see the address range that was faulty. 7535.2 -7663.2 MB. Now this was either because the certain cells were burned or a more exotic case.

Do note that a good memory shows no errors.

Also, not sure I understand your screen shot. What text on your screen shot shows the error?

I was faced with a similar issue and struggled again and again.

In my case the problem was due to an error in memory (in a tiny range - see the attached picture).

The "weird" thing is that windows 7 had no problem in upgrading to Windows 8, but the upgrade to Windows 8.1 was impossible. For that matter any other installation to any other OS (such as Windows 2012R2) had similar issues.

So please do the memtest to find out if you have similar issues - it will save you a lot of pain. This site is highly recommended http://www.memtest86.com/download.htm with easy instructions to create a bootable USB.

I would also like to take this opportunity to thank the Microsoft Support team I talked to initially in the UK, later in Europe and subsequently at Redmond. After a few phonecalls, they provided remote assistance\access to my PC for a couple of hours and then they escalated the case to Redmond. Although the solution was not found by the MS team, they did everything to confirm that it is not a host OS issue. So then I proceeded with confidence to start checking my hardware. Great work!

After reading your post and muddling about with my PC a bit, I finally managed to make it to 8.1 myself (after a week of failed attempts) ... THANK YOU  :)

I have an HP Envy M6-K025DX, and like you said, the HP Drivers seemed to have been the problem with me as well. I followed your instructions, but there is one difference -- Unlike in your case, try as I may, the Intel HD graphics driver kept getting auto-installed after I removed/restarted on Windows 8. To work around this, I tried changing the device installation settings as well, but nothing helped.

Finally, what I did was first uninstall the Intel HD drivers, and then INSTEAD OF RESTARTING, I went ahead directly with the Win 8.1 store update (like you said, it had already been downloaded for me earlier so I did not have to go through the pain of re-downloading). Lo and behold, the upgrade to Win 8.1 happened without a hitch.

After upgrading to 8.1, I checked my graphics driver, and this showed the default MS Graphic Driver. As suggested by you, I had already downloaded the 8.1 Intel HD driver from the manufacturer (HP) site, and went ahead with the driver install ... Again, worked like a charm, and I am successfully on 8.1 as of now with no issues seen for the moment!

• Recently when I tried to update my windows 8 to 8.1 ,the following error occurs

I ran the updater trouble shooter and the following error occured:

• After spending so many weeks trying all the methods in so many forums ,I was able to update to windows 8.1  by deleting the intel hd driver..

I tried this but it didn't work.
