"Couldn't update to Windows 8.1 - 0xC1900101 - 0x40017"

I have downloaded the Windows 8.1 update from the store but cannot get it to install. Each time I try, I get to the point where it is "getting my devices ready", then the PC restarts to a blue screen with error message. It then tries to recover the installation, fails, then restores Windows 8. When the system boots up after this, I get a message saying:

"Couldn't update to Windows 8.1

Sorry, we couldn't complete the update to Windows 8.1. We've restored your previous version of Windows to this PC.

0xC1900101 - 0x40017"

There is n o explanation as to why the update could be completed. Any ideas how to resolve this?

    I ran into this problem also on my Surface Pro.

    It displayed the Couldn't update to Windows 8.1 - 0xC1900101 - 0x40017 and rolled back to Windows 8.

    So I'll wait and hope Microsoft comes out with a fix soon.

    Same here with a Dell Latitude 10 Tablet... look mah, no Keyboard, no mouse! Nothing to disconnect and all updates, both from Dell and Windows update, have been applied.

    Please help...

    Here's how I ended up solving the problem on the ThinkPad. I went into the BIOS and disabled the Switchable graphics options, and disabled the option to allow the operating system to detect a switchable graphics card. So now Windows 8 was only using and seeing the integrated Intel card. Then upgrading to 8.1 from the store worked.

    I guess I understand the need for ATI to focus on new drivers, but it's a shame that I can't get a decent driver to run on Windows 8.x. My machine is still fully capable and has more than enough power for me, but I feel like I'm being forced to buy a new machine so I can get a half decent graphics experience (e.g. support for multiple monitors on the Intel card is very limited).

    Mine update succussful, case STEELSERIES software,uninstall it, 

    have pic:

    and

    "OS: Win XP, Win Vista, Win 7, Win 8 (ALERT: not compatible with Win 8.1) (32/64 bit bit)."

    Removing STEELSERIES engine do the trick and 8.1 installed now. Others who still can't upgrade should wait MS to fix this bug.

    Hey Microsoft.

    Unable to update my PC to Windows 8.1, it keeps rolling back the update attempt with error

    Couldn't update to Windows 8.1 - 0xC1900101 - 0x40017

    I unplugged all external devices and try again; and update all drivers. Neither approach worked

    PLEASE HELP!!!!!!!!!
