"Couldn't update to Windows 8.1 - 0xC1900101 - 0x40017"

I have downloaded the Windows 8.1 update from the store but cannot get it to install. Each time I try, I get to the point where it is "getting my devices ready", then the PC restarts to a blue screen with error message. It then tries to recover the installation, fails, then restores Windows 8. When the system boots up after this, I get a message saying:

"Couldn't update to Windows 8.1

Sorry, we couldn't complete the update to Windows 8.1. We've restored your previous version of Windows to this PC.

0xC1900101 - 0x40017"

There is n o explanation as to why the update could be completed. Any ideas how to resolve this?

    I have the same issue. I have an Acer Iconia W511, no external devices connected. During first try I haven't realized that it said "Windows 8.1 Preview" in the store. Half an hour later starting the install on another computer it said "Windows 8.1 Update". Right now after updating some drivers I started the installation again. It seems that it completely re-downloads it from the store. But can I be sure with this or do I need to clear some kind of cache to not get any preview bits anymore?

    Update: The last try didn't work as well. And I don't get a blue screen, it just turns black after preapring devices and applying settings, I let it run the whole night yesterday but nothing happened. After turning off and on again Windows tries to repair the update, fails and turns into black screen again. After second turn off and on it reverts to the last installed version.

    Nope, uninstalling the NVidia driver didn't seem to help.  After the installation failure, and it restored my previous system, it did have an older NVidia driver installed.  327.something rather than the 331.40 I started with.

    Got the same problem :*(

    Tried multiple of the offed solutions. so far no luck.

    At the moment everything form my pc is disconnected except my keyboard.

    Hope Microsoft comes up with a fix or tells me witch component i need to offer to the angry windows god in order to enjoy the newest and greatest update .

    CPU: Intel i7 3770

    MB : asus sabertooth z77

    16 GB ram

    Nvidia GTX670

    Peripherals:

    Steelseries Apex keyboard

    Update: I did it ! i uninstallled the Steel engine for the Keybord unpluged it and throw it out of the window (almost). Anyway updated was successful after only 10 min.

    40017 error occurred at about 92% into final settings

    Same error. I am using Lenovo ThinkPad Edge E330 (type 3354-3KG). No additional devices plugged in, all drivers up-to-date. Hope this will be solved soon.

     

    I don't think it's a huge deal and of course we can wait, but the only thing that frustrates me is that these errors have been reported since June, when the Preview version was out. Now that the final version is released, we see that Microsoft did not care to solve this problem.
