I've a DELL Vostro 1710 that was XP with 3Gram and upgraded last Nov to Win 8.0.
Shortly after wards I tried upgrading to 8.1 and it failed so I left it.
Tried again today, it past the Windows 8.1 Assistant. It said nothing about disconnecting all devices.
I just tried downloading the build Windows 8.1 on a USB stick from here
http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-8/upgrade-product-key-only
- however and it wouldn't accept my product Key I have, so it was valuable to have the reference from Pradeep on how to use the Windows 8 product key, that has a free upgrade to windows 8.1
http://microsoft-news.com/download-windows-8-1-iso-to-install-from-usb-stick/
However when it booted it was win 8.0 and was only wanting to rerfresh win 8.0
So restarted the Store upgrade to win 8.1 with all devices disconnected - except internet ethernet
Took about 20min to go through Gathering Info, preparing to restart,
restart
then a flash of a lilac screen "Your PC ran into a problem and... " then missed the rest as it restarted.
I know other people have asked this, are there logs anywhere.
Seems like this failure should be left as a turd to be looked at somewhere?
Event Viewer doesn't seem to help as to what was the failure
