"Couldn't update to Windows 8.1 - 0xC1900101 - 0x40017"

I read in another listing by a Microsoft support team member that there is a bug in the driver update portion of install and to give them a few days to fix it. I encountered the same error number with a dell xps15, and since I am really looking forward to this update I am hoping this si solution. hope this gives you some peace of mind

There's one solution to this problem I've been facing for so long and it's really easy. Just try to refresh your pc and then try to reinstall the 8.1 update. It should work. Worked for me at least. Try it and if it works, lemme know!!!

My system is very brand new and custom built with components specifically targeting Windows 8 compatibility. With the original Windows 8 install, everything was fine. Windows 8.1 has broken it in ways that are confounding.

same issue here but i just got off the phone with MS support and i was told to just wait a few days whatever the **** that will accomplish!

Update:

On Googling the error code it seems this problem occurred for the Win 8.1 preview back in June, but I couldn't find any evidence of a fix. The only suggestion I could find was that perhaps the graphics drivers needed to be updated, but after updating to the latest drivers the problem is still the same - still crashes at the same point, same error message.

I also notice that Microsoft Support doesn't seem to be available at the moment - great timing guys :s
