Windows Update Error Code 80244019

Hi, I'm using Windows 8 (not 8.1) on an Acer Aspire V3-571 laptop. I get my internet via the phone line with a TP-Link ADSL modem and wifi-router. I use wifi all the time. For a year and a half since I bought this laptop everything has been fine. I keep my computer clean with Windows Defender, Spybot and Malwarebytes Free. I update them almost every day and run full scans once a week. I haven't had a virus for ages.

But now over the last week or so I get Error Code 80244019 if I try to do Windows Update. I've tried switching off the wifi and using a LAN cable from the router to the laptop, but it's just the same.

But here's the odd thing. I've tried switching off the modem entirely, and, instead, using a plug-in USB modem with a mobile phone SIM card inside charged up with an internet account, and Windows Update works! No problem.

So, Windows Update doesn't like my ADSL modem suddenly after one and a half years of being OK, but, it does like my plug-in USB mobile phone system modem!

I've tried resetting the ADSL modem back to its original factory settings and starting again, but it's still no good. I get the same error code.

Can anyone help?

Thannk you for replying with the status of the issue.

First of all I would like to apologize for incomplete steps.

I would suggest you to try the following steps to turn on Data Execution Prevention.

Follow the steps to turn on Data Execution Protection:

a. Click on This PCand right click on free space and click Properties.

b. Click on the Advanced system settingsand then click on Advanced tab.

c. Click on Settings under Performance.

d. Click on Data Execution Prevention.

e. Click on Turn on DEP for Essential Windows Programs and Services only.

i. Click on Apply. Click on OK twice.

j. Restart computer and check.

Also try Method 2 and once you are done with the troubleshooting steps reply with the status of the issue.

I solved this issue by checking out which update it stumbled on (check out update history). In my case it was "KB907417: Update voor Office 2003".

I downloaded the update and manually installed it. Then I rebooted the laptop (Dell Latitude). After that the problem was solved.

I was experiencing the Windows Update Error Code 80244019 on a freshly installed Hyper-v virtual 2012r2 server (FYI for the "Beginner": 2012r2 Server is essentially the server equivalent of Windows 8.1) that I had run Windows Update on several times downloading almost all available updates. I then sysprepped the system, cloned, joined to a domain and logged on as administrator. At that point Windows Update automatic updates were disabled and showed as having never even been checked for updates. I enabled automatic updates prompting the check with the resulting error

I tried many of the solutions in this thread to no avail. I did not read through this ridiculously long thread so I do not know if I am repeating something already posted. However I do know that someone mentioned that it could be network related. Once I saw that, I performed the following which fixed the error for me:
1. Changed static secondary DNS from router IP to 8.8.8.8 leaving primary DNS pointing to domain controller
2. Clicked "Change Settings' in Windows Update and selected "give me updates for other microsoft products when I update windows"
3. Clicked "Check for Updates"
No more error!

It seems that Windows Update history BTW is not shared between profiles? Even though this check for updates yielded only one critical update and 4 optionals it still showed in history as never having been updated!! In a newly installed 2012r2 server one can expect many critical updates after numerous checks resulting in several GB's of updates being installed.

Thank you for your response. I appreciate your time.

I would like you to know that if you are using third party security software, try disabling third party security software and check. Disable third-party Security Software.

a. You should see an icon for your Antivirus program in the Task-bar notification area. It is usually at the bottom right corner of your desktop.

b. Click on the third-party Security Software Icon, you will see a pop up.

c. In that pop and select the option to disable, click on it.

d. Now the third-party Security Software will be disabled.

Important Note: Antivirus software can help protect your computer against viruses and other security threats. In most cases, you shouldn't disable your antivirus software. If you have to temporarily disable it to install other software, you should re-enable it as soon as you're done. If you're connected to the Internet or a network while your antivirus software is disabled, your computer is vulnerable to attacks.

Sorry to say having tried all these I am still getting the same error message.

This latest reinstall of windows 7 32bit is the only one I have had this problem with.

My laptop downloaded some 15 updates then then error message started.

Assistance would be VERY appreciated.
