Windows Update Error Code 80244019

Hi, I'm using Windows 8 (not 8.1) on an Acer Aspire V3-571 laptop. I get my internet via the phone line with a TP-Link ADSL modem and wifi-router. I use wifi all the time. For a year and a half since I bought this laptop everything has been fine. I keep my computer clean with Windows Defender, Spybot and Malwarebytes Free. I update them almost every day and run full scans once a week. I haven't had a virus for ages.

But now over the last week or so I get Error Code 80244019 if I try to do Windows Update. I've tried switching off the wifi and using a LAN cable from the router to the laptop, but it's just the same.

But here's the odd thing. I've tried switching off the modem entirely, and, instead, using a plug-in USB modem with a mobile phone SIM card inside charged up with an internet account, and Windows Update works! No problem.

So, Windows Update doesn't like my ADSL modem suddenly after one and a half years of being OK, but, it does like my plug-in USB mobile phone system modem!

I've tried resetting the ADSL modem back to its original factory settings and starting again, but it's still no good. I get the same error code.

Can anyone help?

Thannk you for replying with the status of the issue.

First of all I would like to apologize for incomplete steps.

I would suggest you to try the following steps to turn on Data Execution Prevention.

Follow the steps to turn on Data Execution Protection:

a. Click on This PCand right click on free space and click Properties.

b. Click on the Advanced system settingsand then click on Advanced tab.

c. Click on Settings under Performance.

d. Click on Data Execution Prevention.

e. Click on Turn on DEP for Essential Windows Programs and Services only.

i. Click on Apply. Click on OK twice.

j. Restart computer and check.

Also try Method 2 and once you are done with the troubleshooting steps reply with the status of the issue.

I solved this issue by checking out which update it stumbled on (check out update history). In my case it was "KB907417: Update voor Office 2003".

I downloaded the update and manually installed it. Then I rebooted the laptop (Dell Latitude). After that the problem was solved.

Hello,

I keep getting this error code as well when I run the Microsoft Fix it program. So originally my problem was when i go to look for updates it would just keep searching and searching it wouldn't say its up to date or show new updates. So I ran the Microsoft Fix It program and then It came up with that error 80244019. I checked my DEP For essential windows and it was already On. Im quite lost and really dont want to have to resort to method three its a little bit beyond me. Not sure if this has anything to do with it or not but I just restored this computer to original software to try to wipe clean because I noticed my Recovery drive D: was full and I kept getting little alerts about it so I deleted the whole partition i think LOL yeah Im a noob.. So now I cant see the d: drive anymore its gone only have a c: drive. It seems to be working fine without the recovery partition but Im sure its not a good idea to not have one. Anyways Im sure that has nothing to do with it. Like I said when I run windows update it justs keeps searching. Ill give you some more info not sure if this will help or not but some results from the microsoft fix it program it said there were problems installing recent updates. When I was finished the Fix it scan it said that there were still issues it couldn't fix. Any ideas?

The error 80244019 means that the computer doesn't support DEP (aka NX), or has it turned off. My own system, a Dell Dimension 4500, has a chip that supports DEP, but the BIOS (even the newest one for this system) does not, so whatever update relies on DEP will not install. (This now includes Win 8.1 and Win 10).

Frankly I think it would be good to split the software paths and allow systems that don't have DEP enabled to continue to operate; there are tens (or hundreds?) of millions of computers which will now need to be abandoned and sent to dumps who-knows-where, and tens (or hundreds?) of really angry (and maybe now FORMER) Microsoft customers.

I have been having this problem for the past month. I had previously unticked other products so that I could continue to get windows updates. September's load of updates came this morning so I installed the updates and restarted computer. I went to the Microsoft site https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/gp/windows-update-issues/en-us

and clicked on the run now repair. Once it had run and said it fixed what was broken I went back to updates, went to settings and ticked the box for other Microsoft products and clicked OK. The updater ran and gave me all of the other updates which I installed. Went back after the computer had restarted and the updates are now running and I am no longer getting the error. Problem solved.
