Microsoft Fix It encountered an unexpected problem and cannot continue.

I was having trouble with updates. So much so that I was tired of the crashes, hangs, restarts, etc. I re-formatted my drive and reinstalled Windows 7 Professional SP1 64 from my disk. Re-installed all the drivers, programmes, registered with Microsoft and got authenticated. Whoopee! Still wont update. So I decided to run the Fix It but no. Apparently it encounters a user induced break point. During the installation I did not amend or adjust any settings and therefore am innocent I tell you! Ahem, I have searched Microsoft and the internet for a solution but nothing appears to work. Anyone know of a Fix It to Fix a Fix it?  When I run updates (which is why I sought help in the first place) I get error 800B0100 which does not help very much at all. Can't say I am that impressed with Microsoft at the moment but maybe someone there will be able to put that right. I pasted a screen shot of the error below but I bet its not here once I submit.

    Hi Gerry

    I have not knowingly used Hiren's boot CD.

    I have not installed Visual Basic Virtual Machine, however:

    1. I did load a copy of Microsoft Office 2002 which I think may have run in XP mode. I have uninstalled these now and use Libre Office (very similar and free).
    2. I do remember downloading something (could have been MSE) which asked if it could install Visual Basic or similar C+++ seems to ring a bell.

    I did a search and have posted the out comes here http://1drv.ms/1lsihlz. The folders it shows are given as empty although I don't recall installing or uninstalling them. Maybe they are loaded as a potential need during the installation process..

    I have checked  the folder and there is no msvbm60.dll stored there.

    Would it be simpler if you were able to remote on and have a look around? If so we can agree a time and you can see if you can get this resolved.

    I am still looking for an answer to the question "What is a user defined breakpoint?"

    msvbm60.dll is not normally installed on a Windows 7 computer as Visual Basic is being phased out. It gets installed when you install certain applications which need it. Knowing which application is a guessing game.

    Have you used a Hiren’s Boot CD?

    Have you installed Visual Basic Virtual Machine?

    Have a look in your System32 folder at C:\Windows\System32 for msvbm60.dll.

    You may need to change your settings in Windows to be able to see the file. To show hidden files type Folder Options in the search box above the Start button and select View, Advanced Settings and verify that the box before "Show hidden files and folders" is checked and "Hide protected operating system files" is unchecked. You may need to scroll down to see the second item. You should also make certain that the box before "Hide extensions for known file types" is not checked.

    Hi Gerry

    The result was that the specified module failed to load. A search confirmed that msvbm60.dll does not exist.! There are a number of msv files but that one isn't one of 'em.

    Select Start, All Programs, Accessories, right click Command Prompt, and click Run as administrator from the drop down menu. Type regsvr32 msvbm60.dll and press the Enter key.

    Hi Gerry,

    I have uploaded the results when I attempted to run the fix it. I have also discovered that the update agent on my pc is 7.5.7601.17514 dated 21.11 2010 which could be the problem. To update windows update you need to run windows update. I now know what it feels like to be trapped in a vicious circle. I can find no way to get an updated agent so over to you.
