Microsoft Fix It encountered an unexpected problem and cannot continue.

I was having trouble with updates. So much so that I was tired of the crashes, hangs, restarts, etc. I re-formatted my drive and reinstalled Windows 7 Professional SP1 64 from my disk. Re-installed all the drivers, programmes, registered with Microsoft and got authenticated. Whoopee! Still wont update. So I decided to run the Fix It but no. Apparently it encounters a user induced break point. During the installation I did not amend or adjust any settings and therefore am innocent I tell you! Ahem, I have searched Microsoft and the internet for a solution but nothing appears to work. Anyone know of a Fix It to Fix a Fix it?  When I run updates (which is why I sought help in the first place) I get error 800B0100 which does not help very much at all. Can't say I am that impressed with Microsoft at the moment but maybe someone there will be able to put that right. I pasted a screen shot of the error below but I bet its not here once I submit.

    Please download and run ADWCleaner and post a copy of the report produced:

    I suggest you take the precaution of creating a system restore point before running ADWCleaner, to guard against unforeseen consequences. Select Start, Control Panel, System, System Protection, and click the Create button.

    Uninstall and reinstall Microsoft Security Essentials.

    1. Malwarebytes found two pups, both removed and the system restarted to ensure removed.
    2. Windows will not update. Start, all programmes, Windows update, check for updates. "Windows could not search for new updates, an error occurred" Code 800B0100. Exactly the same error. Incidentally updates reports that I have never checked for or updated.
    3. Latest development. Microsoft Security Essentials will no longer update, even manually. "The app could not check for Virus and Spyware definitions, please check your connection and try again" Error code 0x80004004 Update definitions could not be installed.

    What in God's name is going on here? It almost seems like an issue with Microsoft allowing validation but then not allowing access to the benefits of validation.  As for patience I am running on fumes at the moment.

    Did you remove what Malwarebytes found?

    What happens when you run Windows Update? Select Start, All Programs, Windows Update, Check for Updates. Check the boxes before the updates you want to install, click on Install and click again on Install in the next window and the process of installing starts. You should let the process proceed without interruption. Multi-tasking at the time updating is in progress is unwise. The progress window will tell you what is going on. You need to be patient.

    Well, is that it then? And to make my happiness complete Microsoft Security Essentials has stopped updating. This is frustrating on so many levels. Microsoft provide diabolical service.
