Windows 8.1 Network Connection Error: One or more network protocols missing on this computer

Friend's computer running Windows 8.1 is unable to connect to awired or wireless network giving the following error: Problems found: One or more network protocols are missing on this computer. Windows Network Diagnostics is unable to repair the problem. 

This problem appeared after Webroot SecureAnywhere Complete was installed and run. It detected several problems (virus, trojan, malware) and it removed the infections. My friend did reboot the computer and since then it became unable to connect. 

Has anyone had this kind of problem happen to them, and what if anything, other than restoring from scratch, can be done to regain connectivity.

64 Bits Windows 8.1

Update: After toying with the TCP-IP protocols, system is now showing an active wireless connection with full strength, yet when a browser its open it brings up an empty page with "This page can't be displayed"

Pinging to yahoo server returns positive with all ping successfully completed.

Using Internet Explorer "Fix connection problems" returns that no problem was found.

Network Connections shows an active Wi-fi state, and with status details showing IPv4 with Internet Connection, not so for IPV6. Media state as Enabled. Speed 144.0 Mbps, and under Activity: Sent bytes: 1,827, Received bytes 2,513.  Diagnose option returns no found issues.

Could this be a possible Virus or System Compromised by malware or trojan?  Webroot Active and no infections has been detected since original setup and clearing of active infections.

thank you, I have sorted it out. it was the internet security I had just installed, it was blocking the internet

    At the same location?  Otherwise what are the differences?

    FWIW I think Kapil's answer is probably more helpful to you than the one you are replying to.  Unfortunately the troubleshooter's don't give us enough details about what protocols they think are missing.  So I consider the one about IPv4 Tunnels a guess which seems to be working for some but not all.

    This put me on the right path.  I had assigned a  static address to the PC outside the range of the DHCP pool of the router.  Everything was fine for a long time but suddenly I lost internet connection.  

    After allowing the PC (from it's adapter settings) to obtain an address automatically instead of assigning it a static addy my internet connection was restored.  I then logged onto the actiontec router and assigned it a static addy from within the DHCP pool.  Problem solved.  Key is to have the device (PC in this case) get its' addy automatically and not assign it a static from the adapter settings.

    I have the same problem getting msg that I am missing one or more protocols on Windows 10

    I know it is in my settings but don't know how to fix it.

    additional important info on msg was:   Windows Sockets registry entries required for Network connectivity are missing

    Anyone know how to fix this issue specifically?

    Hey. I had the same issue last week.

    I managed to get my internet to work by unplugging all my router's power cables for a full minute.

    It was a router problem, however Windows said it was missing protocol.

    So try unplugging your router and all internet acces pointe for a minute or two. It might work.
