Windows 8.1 Network Connection Error: One or more network protocols missing on this computer

Friend's computer running Windows 8.1 is unable to connect to awired or wireless network giving the following error: Problems found: One or more network protocols are missing on this computer. Windows Network Diagnostics is unable to repair the problem.

This problem appeared after Webroot SecureAnywhere Complete was installed and run. It detected several problems (virus, trojan, malware) and it removed the infections. My friend did reboot the computer and since then it became unable to connect.

Has anyone had this kind of problem happen to them, and what if anything, other than restoring from scratch, can be done to regain connectivity.

Update: After toying with the TCP-IP protocols, system is now showing an active wireless connection with full strength, yet when a browser its open it brings up an empty page with "This page can't be displayed"

Pinging to yahoo server returns positive with all ping successfully completed.

Using Internet Explorer "Fix connection problems" returns that no problem was found.

Network Connections shows an active Wi-fi state, and with status details showing IPv4 with Internet Connection, not so for IPV6. Media state as Enabled. Speed 144.0 Mbps, and under Activity: Sent bytes: 1,827, Received bytes 2,513. Diagnose option returns no found issues.

Could this be a possible Virus or System Compromised by malware or trojan? Webroot Active and no infections has been detected since original setup and clearing of active infections.

thank you, I have sorted it out. it was the internet security I had just installed, it was blocking the internet

I had the same problems after the Windows 10, last update, with only one site.

I went to CMD and ran a ping on the address I had problems with. No packets went through. Checked and the site was up but not for me. I then done a CMD with Tracert and the ip address and found it was blocked at a location in Washington.

Here I thought it was Windows 10 updates and it wasn't.

I turned off my Modem / Router for 10 minutes, shut down my computer and then turned on the router and computer. Next day it was ok.

Hi,

I was to a loan party at my friends house and everything worked fine, when I got him at set up my computer, I couldn't get internet, I ran the error finding program thing and it said "There are missing one or more protocols on this computer", I've been looking for help for 3 days now, I've done everything, resettled my computer, restarted, everything I could find possible, please help me if u can.

Done a Tracert "IP" in ADM CMD it showed that my connection was lost in Washington, with my carrier.

Unfortunately that really only says something about the ICMP protocol support on the path that request took. What is the problem symptom that you were trying to try to understand by using that diagnostic?

Microsoft is correct. I hooked my computer through my hot spot on my phone and got through. Went back to my old connection and nothing. Done a Tracert "IP" in ADM CMD it showed that my connection was lost in Washington, with my carrier.
