How to change tiles' background color in Windows 8.1 start screen?

This is embarassing.

The tiles now comeletely suc*s and the 'Start button' is simply one more button on my bar that sends me to the Metro UI anyway...all to see that unicorn vomit thing.

Seriously, tiles looked amazing on Windows 8. Why the heck ruining them like this on 8.1??

Do I really need to reinstall the whole thing just to get them back how they already was?

I'll never understand Microsoft. People complained about Metro UI which actually worse since on large screens it gives you more programs all there without having a desktop full of stuff like you did in the 90's but now it just looks horrible! Patch it right, it's so horrible to see I wouldn't even turn my computer on if it wasn't for work.

Does this have to do with the color of the screen the tiles are on or the actual color of the tile itself? I read it through and it seems to do with the color round all the tiles (screen background color as opposed to the tile color itself).

Thanks, I'd seen that already. It's interesting, though; I could imagine the author of that article having a slightly negative opinion of the 8.1 tile behaviour, the way it's described.

It says something when MS reworks the Office icons so they don't look so horrible under 8.1. Rather than fix the problem in 8.1!

I can't believe there isn't a Group Policy setting or registry entry that could be used to decide whether Windows 8.1 will display tiles with a uniform background, or with an arbitrary colour picked from the icon.

Someone in Windows development was able to add this 'feature' to Windows 8.1 and nobody was able to prevent it reaching the finished product.
