ChangeIcon MFC Application has stopped working.

Since the last set up updateson 16/09/2014 for "Update for WIndows 8.1 for x64-based Systems (KB2976719), (KB2989647) and (KB2984006)", I have been getting an error everytime I start up my computer stating that "changeicon MFC application has stopped working". It states the issue as an "app crash" and that the relevant program is "UMonit64.exe".

I traced to program to its directory and ran all my virus/malware/etc scans on it and they all said it was fine. I then attempted to run the program and it came up with the same error that pops up on startup and a second error message saying it wasn't able to run because "ustor.dll" was missing.

I did a system restore to before I did the windows update and sure enough everything worked fine. I then ran the windows update again after restarting to complete the update the "changeicon MFC application has stopped working" error message started popping up again.

So my questions are:

  1. What is UMonit64.exe/ChangeIcon Application?
  2. Did my windows update cause the issue?
  3. How do I stop the error message from popping up everytime I start up?
  4. Do I need UMonit64.exe? I haven't noticed any programs malfunction when I click the "close program" option when the error message pops up.
  5. If I do need it, should I download the missing DLL file to fix it? If so where would be a safe place to download the replacement dll file?
  6. Anything else I need to know to fix the issue or whether future windows updates will fix it for me and I should just ignore it for the time being.

    Ali,

    Firstly; I am not an engineer but I have had the same frustrations and I have done some pretty stupid things trying to solve this. Here is my advice:

    Simply updating the driver via windows driver update feature will NOT work! Uninstalling windows updates or the actual ChangeIcon MFC app itself will make things even more difficult. Make sure you have the updates installed and that you actually have the Genesys Logic card reader in your computer. Then download the driver from the link provided, and install that particular file. This should work providing you do exactly as instructed. Hope this helps as I have NO more advice apart from visiting the computer vendor.

    i also have an Asus Laptop (G750JS) and i use this driver:

    click on the link "Télécharger" to download it if it appear in French.

    Unfortunately I tried to update my G750JZ driver and the error message is appears.

    This is driving me insane!

    I have the same problem ... not work remove updates, driver updates Genesys not work .. I have G750JS ... please help me!

    Do not display icons from metro start in the taskbar on the desktop from this cause.

    Basically: Go back a few posts and install the 4.5 version of the Genesys cardreader driver ( you will find the link). The 4.3 version from Asus homepage is faulty and outdated. Then you will be able to install windows updates without application crashes. PROBLEM IS SOLVED. LETS CLOSE THIS THREAD! CHEERS!

    I´m not a computer wiz but I´m working with the Asus Rog 750JM and I´ve been trying to find a solution to this problem.

    The first solution posted worked for me until another "important" updated was installed and the problem persisted even when I uninstalled the updates. However, I found that if you search for Umonit64.exe you will find tons of Appcrash folders and in my case two Umonit64 executables in the directory

    C:\eSupport\eDriver\Software\CardReader\Genesys\Genesys_cardreader_driver_(GL3213)\win81_32_win81_64_4.3.0.7\common

    and

    C:\Windows\ASUS\Temp\Common

    So I simply ran a Windows 8 compatibilty test on both of them and ran in to the "ChangeIcon MFS Application has stopped working" message with the one in the C:\Windows\ASUS\Temp\Common folder. I uninstalled it, reboot my laptop and my problem is solved.

    I don´t know what causes the probIem and I haven´t reinstalled the updates yet but I´ll try again and update.
