How do I disable the new titlebar in Modern Apps?

+1 from me on this RDP/title bar issue. +1000. Aw heck .. +googal

Like many posters here I too have been living with that darn pop-down title bar for far too long, for many reasons already posted. Yesterday I was RDP'd (using Metro/Modern/Store app) into work, and from there opened an RDP window (desktop app) to a client system. Second RDP opened full screen with that blue title/control bar in auto-hide mode. Could not hover the mouse high enough to get that control bar back, the Metro title bar kept getting in the way. I finally had to close Metro RDP and reconnect using desktop RDP long enough to get control back.

That was the last straw. I decided to search the web for an answer and found this thread. While I'm depressed that there does not seem to be a way to hide that thing, I'm somewhat comforted (but sad, really) that I'm far from alone in this frustration.

Thank you, whoever suggested right-clicking on the title bar. Far from perfect, but I no longer have to wait for it to go away.

Microsoft - please listen to your users!!!  (yeah, it's feeling a little futile right now....)

Not that I want to in ANY way help Microsoft avoid fixing this issue, but you can always de-zoom your session in order to get to the top edge. It's far from a solution, but if you get caught like that again it will save you from having to reconnect.

This just makes me sad, and frustrated.

The Windows 8 full screen app was the only exciting (ie non-incremental) development I've seen in the desktop in 20 years. Sure, most users didn't "get it". I didn't "get it" at first either, but once I got it there was no going back...

Until that festering, hideous, bothersome title-bar appeared... "No worries" I thought to myself, I'll just disable it...

It is a pity that Microsoft all of a sudden started to listen to customers and Nielsen. They were in such a flow with modern interface. No watch and observe Windows 8, 8.1, and 10. Slowly the at first so boldly abandoned and superfluous Start Menu returned. A nightmare for manuel and course material authors. It's a mess.

I agree. When you try to please everyone, we all lose.  But I see it the other way around too. We already have a perfect environment for mouse users, a special place that has been built and carefully refined over decades. We call that the desktop. So mouse users should use it.

Ok let me get this straight...

You've introduced Windows 8 as an environment that was supposed to be used by both touch users, AND mouse/keyboard users. We make suggestions, and you implement them your way, and when we come back to you, and tell you how we want to see them changed to make them even better, you cut off mouse/keyboard users by telling them they should just stick to using the desktop?

I'm sorry, but this is bad form, and reflects VERY poorly on Microsoft's reputation in the eyes of the public. I could just as easily swear off all Microsoft products, and go with free operating systems like Linux,, and get rid of all of my microsoft hardware, if that is how you feel about the people who purchase your products. If you stop fighting us on the issue, and actually listen to what we're trying to tell you, then you might actually gain more favor.

What we're trying to tell you is that we want to see the title bar that was added to windows store apps in the windows 8.1 update to be something we can enable, and disable with a check box somewhere. It can be in taskbar options, or it can be somewhere in the PC Settings app.

The reason for this request is that for mouse users, this title bar gets in the way of apps that have interface elements at the top of the app, which are covered up by the title bar, when it appears. This impedes efficiency, and ease of access for mouse users.

Confining mouse users to only the desktop leaves half of the operating system completely unused to uselessly take up RAM, while touch users have the use of both the desktop, and windows store apps.

Your logic is flawed.

The logic is hugely flawed. The entire reason, the ONLY reason Microsoft put the title bars in the metro apps was to assist/appease mouse users. To say that the desktop is what should be used by mouse users and not metro apps is dumb as obviously this was not Microsoft's line of thought since they added mouse elements to metro apps. Touch users never see the title bar, only mouse users.

At least when you right click the title bar it disappears, which is an ok workaround, but I would rather it be gone altogether.
