How do I disable the new titlebar in Modern Apps?

This new "feature" is absolutely absurd. Not only does the "window menu" drop-down on mouse hover---which is bad enough when using any app that has navigation/UI elements at the top of the screen---but also when switching between apps. So if I switch from the desktop or some other app to Chrome in the Modern UI, I have to wait until the thoroughly useless thing disappears before I can switch tabs using the mouse.

I was in the small minority of users who actually preferred the Modern interface to the conventional Win X desktop. It reminded me a lot of using tiling window managers like Stumpwm and Ratpoison in Linux---window managers I vastly preferred to explorer or whatever it was called. But now? This is a huge regression, and a complete turn-off; all the more so because you can't actually turn it off!

I agree. When you try to please everyone, we all lose.  But I see it the other way around too. We already have a perfect environment for mouse users, a special place that has been built and carefully refined over decades. We call that the desktop. So mouse users should use it.

In our situation they could please a large majority of their users by adding an option to turn the Metro Title Bar off, which is very reasonable since the original version was off and had allowed people to acclimate to a certain usage. The text editor I am using on this webpage right now has no less than 17 different options to format text. I don't think it excessive to request a single setting to restore what had been before.

The attitude that mouse users should use only the desktop is difficult to wrap my mind around. It seems to suggest that they shouldn't have included Metro at all in Windows 8 for the desktop. I think a lot of people would have been pleased by that, but now they have to use it (at least) because that's where Start is located (an apparent tactic for people to spend more time in Metro, whether as a mouse or touch user, perhaps to generate revenue through app sales). In my case, I have just bought a Lenovo Yoga and am lingering in limbo by your logic because I am a mouse user or a touch user (or both) depending on how I have my screen oriented.

The point of all of this? Execute. If you have an idea (and in this case Windows 8 was a very good idea--not the best--but good), please follow through, because partially executed (Windows 8) can be a step back from leaving things the way they are (Windows 7). I think this opinion is borne out by people's reluctance to move from earlier versions of Windows.

With that said, I'm rather pleased with Windows 8 on the whole, but I have a short list of "improvements" I would suggest.

This new bar is horrible! I'm working with RDP all time and now, 10-20 times a day, I'm closing the RDP session instead of the application on the RDP session I want to close. Is there any registry hack available to get back an useful RDP app?

Thanks for the edit. Checking Stardock's website now. I too find this titlebar REALLY annoying, with/without mouse won't make any difference in this case, we hate it.

As a workaround, you might want to use the desktop version of Remote Desktop client.  You can switch directly to any connection without launching the app first before choosing, because you can select directly from the taskbar on your 1st click.

Plus, you will never be in danger of clicking the wrong X in the corner, because this client toolbar does not display there.
