[W8.1 Update 1] "Windows Store failed to sync machine licenses. Result code 0x80070490"

After a clean install of windows 8.1.1 using the ISO from Technet I started getting the following error message in my event log the first time I start my machine in the morning:

Event 512 Store-Licensing  "Windows Store failed to sync machine licenses. Result code 0x80070490"

I use a Microsoft account and I have synced by Modern apps many times manually. Running the scheduled task manually will also produce the same error. I disabled the Scheduled Task that runs the sync and I'll see if it shows up tomorrow. Btw, the Store seems to be working fine.

I  read somewhere that the MS Store will be changed for 8.1.1 so I wonder if the 'new' store will stop these messages.

The Scheduled Task that kicks this off appears to be Microsoft/Windows/WS and is called WSRefreshBannedAppsListTask.

    Hi Cunnith,

Thanks for the reply. After U I posted, I ran this tool http://support2.microsoft.com/kb/971058/en-us, and also installed the two updates above. So far, so good, but I've thought that before. We'll see!

The tool actually said it had sorted something, so maybe it did (though lots of other tools said they did, but didn't!)

Here in the UK, I was receiving one "Windows Store failed to sync machine licenses. Result code 0x80070490" error every day but have not had any errors since November 19 when two updates were installed:

Security Update for Windows 8.1 for x64-based Systems (KB3011780)

    and

Update for Windows 8.1 for x64-based Systems (KB3000850)

The latter was an optional update which I selected to install.

Could it be that one of these has solved the problem?

Not here. I live in Germany and the error is still being logged once a day after those updates.

I'm back to the workaround (executing the task as SYSTEM instead of USER). I have no apps installed and use a local user account so its alright for me.

    Kind regards

Same here. Windows Update troubleshooter claims to Repair Windows Update Component, but the same problem re-appears if you run it again, dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth claims to repair component store corruption, but the error still  appears in the Windows Update troubleshooter, the Windows Store app troubleshooter says cache and licences may be corrupt or store configuration may be damaged, but does nothing about it (or, if it does, it doesn't work). Another site said Windows Firewall has to be switched on even if you have another firewall running - this doesn't help. Somehow, recently, I reconnected and found I had 25 important updates to download! But it's gone again now.

And, if you run dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth  and it claims to have repaired the corruption, restart the computer and run it again, it again claims to have repaired the corruption!
