[W8.1 Update 1] "Windows Store failed to sync machine licenses. Result code 0x80070490"

After a clean install of windows 8.1.1 using the ISO from Technet I started getting the following error message in my event log the first time I start my machine in the morning:

Event 512 Store-Licensing  "Windows Store failed to sync machine licenses. Result code 0x80070490"

I use a Microsoft account and I have synced by Modern apps many times manually. Running the scheduled task manually will also produce the same error. I disabled the Scheduled Task that runs the sync and I'll see if it shows up tomorrow. Btw, the Store seems to be working fine.

I  read somewhere that the MS Store will be changed for 8.1.1 so I wonder if the 'new' store will stop these messages.

The Scheduled Task that kicks this off appears to be Microsoft/Windows/WS and is called WSRefreshBannedAppsListTask.

for what it's worth, three PC's on two different accounts. daily error reported in event viewer.

Causing no real issues that I can see.

Just thought I would report it.

Same (error) here, have tried Syncing the licenses, the KB article proposal and the error persists in Event viewer...

Microsoft, this is a real issue.

I think that so far we are simply stuck with the procedure Microsoft Support Engineers have to follow. And I believe there is the following assumption at Microsoft:

    1. The problem can't be with Windows 8.1 Update as it was tested internally before release.

    2. The problem must have been covered by existing KB articles and Fix-Its.

    3. The problem is not critical - it does not contribute to data loss or poses a security threat.

    1. It's unknown how widespread the problem is (it's not a crash so the error is not sent out to Microsoft automatically, I guess).

Personally, I'm willing to go through the entire process with Microsoft Support just to confirm if it's a Windows 8.1 Update issue (I would guess it is). And afterwards, if the issue is not widespread, it probably won't be fixed as the cost of the whole process of fixing the problem will outweight the potential gain.

If the issue is widespread though then there is a chance for a fix (probably a silent one - with a Windows Store update for example)

Hello Ramesh and thank you for your help.

Unfortunately, the error message in the Event Log still appears. I have created a new local account (called Test) with administrator privileges, I had signed in to the test account and then manually started WSRefreshBannedAppsListTask task.

Now there are two error messages in the Event Viewer (same ID and description as before): one is generated for my normal account and the other is generated for the test account:
