[W8.1 Update 1] "Windows Store failed to sync machine licenses. Result code 0x80070490"

After a clean install of windows 8.1.1 using the ISO from Technet I started getting the following error message in my event log the first time I start my machine in the morning:

Event 512 Store-Licensing  "Windows Store failed to sync machine licenses. Result code 0x80070490"

I use a Microsoft account and I have synced by Modern apps many times manually. Running the scheduled task manually will also produce the same error. I disabled the Scheduled Task that runs the sync and I'll see if it shows up tomorrow. Btw, the Store seems to be working fine.

I  read somewhere that the MS Store will be changed for 8.1.1 so I wonder if the 'new' store will stop these messages.

The Scheduled Task that kicks this off appears to be Microsoft/Windows/WS and is called WSRefreshBannedAppsListTask.

    Thank you for keeping us updated about the issue. I really appreciate your efforts towards resolving the issue.

    If issue still persists I would suggest you to create new user account as an administrator and then check the status.

    Hello Ramesh and thank you for your reply.

    I had already tried the Method 1 from the KB article (see my post from April 16, 2014) but the problem still persists. I do not want to perform a repair Windows install (Method 2) of the two laptops that exhibit the issue unless there is absolutely no other way (especially that SFC no longer reports any problems after running DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth)

    I would suggest you to run the fixit provided in the following Microsoft Article. If you want then you can try the manual steps also provided in the link.

    unfortunately, no changes, same error.

    BTW, just in case, the error message I'm getting is in the Store-Client-UI log and is not taken into account by the event logger summary.

    I notice just before I have this error another error in Store-Client-UI

    Wsreset makes no changes to that

    Provider 0 (DiscoveryService) - unable to store result in cache for 0-DiscoveryService-SLS.6.3.9600.0.17031.776.dat

    Error: unspecified error

    Function: WindowsStoreCache::DoQuery

    Source: enduser\winstore\ui\cache.cpp (2066)

    I haven't got this error myself.

    I believe the file mentioned resides somewhere here:

    %userprofile%\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows Store\Cache

    From my experience, you can delete the contents of %userprofile%\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows Store\Cache and it should be recreated next time you start the Windows Store or the WSRefreshBannedAppsListTask task.
