[W8.1 Update 1] "Windows Store failed to sync machine licenses. Result code 0x80070490"

After a clean install of windows 8.1.1 using the ISO from Technet I started getting the following error message in my event log the first time I start my machine in the morning:

Event 512 Store-Licensing  "Windows Store failed to sync machine licenses. Result code 0x80070490"

I use a Microsoft account and I have synced by Modern apps many times manually. Running the scheduled task manually will also produce the same error. I disabled the Scheduled Task that runs the sync and I'll see if it shows up tomorrow. Btw, the Store seems to be working fine.

I  read somewhere that the MS Store will be changed for 8.1.1 so I wonder if the 'new' store will stop these messages.

The Scheduled Task that kicks this off appears to be Microsoft/Windows/WS and is called WSRefreshBannedAppsListTask.

I'm getting this error too, on all Windows 8.1 machines we got in the house, since update 1.

All of the installations are using local accounts instead of Microsoft accounts. There are no apps installed at all, the preinstalled store apps were all uninstalled and only the desktop mode is in use.

Has disabling the WSRefreshBannedAppsList task any side effects or is this solely for the license check?

    Best regards

    Hello T Suominen,

Thank you for keeping us updated about the issue.

As per the description which you have provided in your post, I would suggest you to try the steps provided in the following Microsoft article and see if it helps.

Event ID 512 — Shadow Copy System Writer Functionality

    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd363857(v=ws.10).aspx

Hope this would help. If issue still persists post back with current status of your computer and result of proposed suggestion, we will be happy to assist you.

    Thank you.

Although it has the same ID, isn't this a different event? The source is different. So what do you think is the connection between

Event ID 512 (source CAPI2) - Shadow Copy System Writer Functionality

    and

Event ID 512 (source Store-Licensing) - Windows Store failed to sync machine licenses. Result code 0x80070490

As other users have pointed out, I too observe that the "Windows Store failed to sync machine licenses. Result code 0x80070490" error occurs whenever the WSRefreshBannedAppsListTask is started. One solution would be to disable this task, but this is not very satisfactory.

    Hello T Suominen,

Checking all of the boxes is a diagnostic step. By checking all boxes it will give full access to everyone that’s true. So if you will do it we can diagnose the issue that it is due to permission issue. So please do the respective and check the status if it helps or not.

    Thank you.

Hmmm... checking ALL of those boxes would then mean 'FULL Access' to everyone, wouldn't it. And that's not what was described in the Technet article...

Did not yet check all of those boxes.
