hi, you don't need to dig deeper and don't need to change registry value. just restart windows explorer from the task manager.
Can't click windows icon and hot corners not working
For some reason, after using my pc for awhile, I can no longer click/rightclick the windows icon on the bottom left side of the screen. None of the hot spots in any corners work but I can stick click my taskbar or click the windows key botton on the keyboard to get to the start menu. Every time this happens I am forced to restart my computer. It's annoying enough to where I will reinstall if I have to but I would like that to be a last resort.

My friend this is a Windows 8.1 Update 1 bug. Try this steps:
step 1. HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\ImmersiveShell\EdgeUI
step 2. Set both DisableTLCorner and DisableTRCorner to the data value of 0
step 3. exit and Restart computer
Try this steps and everything is ok :)

This certainly did the trick for me - much appreciate the help!
Press ctrl-alt-del and open the Task manager. Click "File" menu, click "Run New Task", type in cmd and check the "Create this task with administrative privileges" checkbox.
If your right-click works in explorer panes, you can open windows/system32/ and right click on cmd.exe and "Run as administrator".
Hi,
Sorry to know that you are facing this issue.
If you have not yet tried the SFC scan then recommend you to use this tool. SFC /scannow is a super-useful command you can use in any Windows version. When the SFC (System File Checker) command is used with the /scannow switch, the tool will scan all of the important Windows files on your computer and replace them as necessary. Missing and corrupt operating system files (like many DLL files) are arguably the biggest cause of major Windows issues.
Refer to these steps to perform a SFC scan:
a) Press Windows key + X, select Command prompt (Admin) to bring up elevated command prompt.
b) In the command prompt type the following command: sfc /scannow and press enter.
c) After the scan, restart the computer and check if the issue persists.
Once the scan is done, restart the computer and ensure that the computer is up to date with the latest Windows Updates.

3-Click and run the trouble shooter for System Maintenance. Once this is done, restart the computer and check the status.
Method 2.
Further, you may boot the computer in Safe Mode and check if the issue persists. Safe Mode starts Windows with a minimal set of drivers and services.
Windows Startup Settings (including safe mode): http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-8/windows-startup-settings-safe-mode
If the issue does not occur in Safe Mode, then you may boot the computer in a clean boot state and check the status.
When you start Microsoft Windows, typically there are several programs that start automatically and run in the background that may interfere with the game. These programs may include antivirus and system utility programs. When you perform a clean startup procedure, you prevent these programs from starting automatically.
