Hello.

I got an issue with my Lumia 930 that i bought today.

When i've got an incomming/outgoing call the person on the other end can't hear me, but i can hear them clearly. It works when i put the call on speaker, but i want to be able to call someone and not sharing the conversation with everyone around me.

So far i've done:

Soft reset

Hard reset

Nokia Software recovery tool

Does anyone have this issue?

Is there a fix for this or should i return it?

First check that nothing is blocking the 4 tiny microphone holes. A screen protector or protective case can cause this.

Next, have the phone inspected by a technician ...

i have this too. started sometime after denim. and i first noticed a couple of months ago. and have been checking this thread since then. im very disappointed that there is no solution, or acknowleged by microsoft.

defintely software issue. one time after a reboot i recorded a test message using whatsapp. on the playback you could hear it go from loud to zero in about 2 seconds.

come on microsoft! sort it out! currently i cant shazam or video call skype among other things which are VERY important features in 2015! doubly frustrating that they used to work.

how many users of this flagship phone need to have an issue for it to be addressed! unacceptable !

i like ms products and ecosystem but its getting increasingly difficult to stay or recommend to others when other products honestly now seem to work better.

    ever hopeful

Yesterday I got the microphone problem too when I tried to send a voice message through Whatsapp. The recording volume is very low, and I can hardly hear it.

I took some tests with a recorder app, and noticed that I get the loudest voice when I talk to the ear piece. Also, the recording comes out a lot louder then I pluck in my head phones to the 3,5mm jack. And as soon as I take it off, there's a lot of background static noise in the audio and my voice cuts back to very low.

It seems that my lumia uses only the mic in the earpiece for recording, and even that is too low volume. Doesn't sound normal at all.

This is pretty frustrating, since I replaced my lumia 920 to 930 because of a microphone problem that other callers could not hear me..... :smileymad: Otherwise I love my phone and I don't want to change to Android or IOS.

I don't get any sound when I record video nor when I use speakerphone on calls.  normal use on calls as well as headphones work fine.  From this thread it seems I should run, not walk, back to Telstra and get a new phone.  Phone worked fine when I got it last year and I always update everything when available.  Shame that no-one seems to care much on MS / Nokia end of things.  I've been quite a fan of the Windows phone - this is my 4th, but not so happy about this issue and the battery / heat thing, which also seems an issue on the Surface (just got a new Surface Pro 3 because it fried during an update....)
