Windows 8.1 error: "thread stuck in device driver"

After installing the Windows 8.1 update without issue, every time I turn on my computer a screen appears that saying that there was an error when the last session ended, and that the issue pertains to "thread_stuck_in_device_driver". This has occurred every time for the last 6 days, and I have used system restore and Windows Update and the issue still remains. Has anyone found a solution to a similar problem?

The Dell support page offers a few things to check, but says if all else fails, replace the video card.

Maybe replacing the video card is worth it to get rid of all the headaches. 

THREAD STUCK IN DEVICE DRIVER

This Blue Screen error indicates that a device driver-almost always a video card driver-is stuck waiting for something (usually a hardware operation) to happen. Most of you have probably seennv4_disp.sys associated with this Blue Screen.

  1. Ensure the video drivers are updated to the latest Dell version.
  2. The system BIOS is fully up-to-date.
  3. If both the video driver and the system BIOS are fully up-to-date, check with the manufacturer for recent driver updates.
  4. As a last resort, try exchanging the video card.

Note: Reinstalling Windows is not likely to prevent this error from reoccurring.

    Hello, good I get replies on my email and could see them from my phone!

    I've been having this error forever, I had made a thread but nobody was able to solve it. I did literally what not...

    However, I'm on Win 10, but I doubt there's such a big difference in the fix. These last replies brought some hope to me. Radney Dri, sir, what do you mean on-board graphics card!? I've got the same APU the guy above said, and I'm starting to think the reason is it or something. AMD A8-7600 APU, its driver or something is wrong, maybe it's the Windows and I need reinstall, I don't know, but I don't want to reinstall it!

    Please check my thread, there's probably all the info you'd need. I still keep getting the error, it's been months, it's annoying, and it's spreading on other games, even GTA:SA in which I had no problems ever!

    Things I tried many, many times:

    • Stress test onto the graphical unit of the APU, noticed nothing;
    • Old drivers deleted/updated;
    • BIOS update somewhere in between those;
    • Uninstalling graphics driver via Device Manager and installing them via Windows Update;
    • Uninstalling the above and installing latest driver for my APU from AMD;
    • Uninstalling the above, installing another driver for my APU;
    • Doing a clean uninstall of the above by uninstalling it via control panel, then deleting all folders of AMD and ATI on C: drive and in registry keys, then installing latest driver for my APU;

    And here we are, currently last thing I did was the last from the list above. The issue is still not solved...help!

    By the way, a note, that I think might be the reason or at least help those that might try and help me:

    Before I thought I have AMD R7 360 GPU (cause those I bought PC from lied to me) and had installed graphics driver for it (without actually having it). When I got to know I don't have that one, I thought that's going to be the reason of the crashes. I removed it via control panel and installed driver for my actual R7 integrated graphics of my A8-7600 APU. Well the issue became more rare but still happens. Oh also, I have set my integrated graphics to use 2GB of its VRAM in BIOS, doubt that has something to do with the issue but I'm so desperate that I say everything!

    Hi,

    Does your motherboard have an on-board graphics card? If not, it might be the reason why you are receiving the error "thread_stuck_in_device_driver" because you said that you don't have a GPU.

    Let us know.

    Help me pls, i build a pc and i have this error thread_stuck_in_device_driver. I update all my pieces and it dosen't work

    config:

    cpu: a8 7600

    ram: 8 gb balistix

    motherboard: f2a68hm-h

    gpu: none
