Windows Live Mail can not copy hyperlinks from one e-mail to another.

Save as hoge.reg, double click the file.

This was a quick and simple fix. As well as my Windows 7 machine, I also used it on my Windows 8.1 machine, on which I had installed Windows Live Mail 2012to replace the crappy mail program that came with Windows 8 -- WLM on Windows 8.1 had the same problem as with Windows 7, so I had resorted to using another mail program (Mozilla's Thunderbird). But now WLM seems fully functional on the Windows 8.1 machine.

For anyone who is not clear about how to implement it, I will try to simplify:

Highlight /select and copy the whole paragraph that starts with (and includes) "Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00 ....." and ends with "..... =dword:00002AF9"

Open NOTEPAD, which is accessed by clicking START, then ALL PROGRAMS, then ACCESSORIES, then NOTEPAD.

Paste what you copied into the NOTEPAD window.

From the FILE menu click SAVE AS and name the file hoge.reg, without the .txt extension.

Select DESKTOP from the saving location, dropdown box at the top. Click the SAVE button. Go to your desktop and double click the hoge,reg file and , in a moment or two, you'll get the message that the changes have been made.

Reboot your machine just to be certain the changes took.

Now open WLM, copy from anywhere some text which contains live hyperlinks and paste into a new message -- the links should still be active.

I know I went through this in baby steps, but it's good to be sure everyone with varying levels of experience understands.

For those of you who are considering moving to APPLE over such circumstances as these, I've said before in this thread that I have a two year old iMac in addition to my PC's -- my experience with APPLE is no better and no less frustrating. APPLE tends to hide (and deny) problems with their software until there is an overwhelming chorus of complaints. The 'Geniuses' at the APPLE STORE don't acknowledge any problem until it is publicly sanctioned by APPLE. I have had problems which the Geniuses have passed off as localized to my machine, which I later discovered were general problems with APPLE software that were not yet acknowledged publicly by APPLE. Many users are APPLE people because they hate MICROSOFT and they tend to be very protective of APPLE and gloss over problems, wanting to promote an image of APPLE as being superior and/or perfect.

So, having the expectation that switching to APPLE will free you of all your computer problems and frustrations will likely lead to disappointment.

Surely Microsoft cannot seriously expect users to be making changes to Registry settings just to keep the software running as it was designed to do. 

My thoughts exactly.  But after nearly 12 pages of this thread, and not an iota of input from Microsoft, frustration and paranoia are taking over.  Microsoft could and should do a much better job of communicating with its clients.  I see no evidence that Microsoft does even monitor this Microsoft Community Site.  Or perhaps I should say that I do not see any results.

The default deocument mode of WLM is ie7. It causes this problem.

Thanks for that.  In your explanation you used the phrase "does not know" and "do not know" three times in reference to Microsoft.  If this is truly the case, and Microsoft will not issue a patch/update, I will not make changes to my registry to correct their incompetence, but I will surely be looking at abandoning Microsoft and moving over to Apple.  This is seriously a tragic turn of events for me.

Maybe they do not know "document mode", They do not know the default document mode of WLM. They do not know how to know the  document mode of WLM. It is difficult for MS to find out the cause and to fix the problem.
