Can't change lock screen on windows 8.1

I tried to change my lock screen in the photos app. First of all it took forever and finally I got a message that said can't change lock screen/make sure the file isn't damaged and try again. I tried this with five other pictures and I got the same thing each time. I then tried to change it in settings and the preview for the picture would not load at all.

HELP!!!

    Hi Charles,

Thank you for sharing the resolution with us which will help others facing the same problems to fix it.

No problem.  Hopefully it will work for anyone experiencing this.  If it doesn't, there are other options to try in the thread.  But, this one seemed the easiest.

I already tried doing what you suggest.  It did not work for my system.  After syncing the problem returned after a little time, which is why I tried the renamed folder option the way I did it.  The renamed folder option seems to have fixed the problem for all users on the machine affected, both administrative and standard users.

Now, if I could just manage to get my custom drive icons to show up again, I would be happy as a clam. :-)
