"Windows can't open Add Printer. There are no more endpoints available from the endpoint mapper

I am experiencing a similar problem. I have an HP desktop and a Xerox Phaser 6300. After the upgrade to Windows 8.1, my apps cannot find any installed printers. The Xerox shows up in the device list, but I cannot use it, even to print a test page. I have downloaded the new driver, and tried to re-install, but when I try to open the Add Printer function, I get the following error message: "Windows can't open Add Printer. There are no more endpoints available from the endpoint mapper." I contacted Microsoft via phone, and the rep told me i needed to go back to Windows 8. HP tells me that if I do that, I will lose all my data and installed programs, including Microsoft Office. I do not want to go through all that again, the computer is only a few months old. Please help!

Open services.msc

Scroll down to Print Spooler and double click on it

Click on Dependencies tab

Check what dependencies the print spooler has, if any

you may need to click  "+" on those dependencies to see more dependencies

Go back to the Services list

On each of the spooler dependencies, double click on it

Make sure it is set to Automatic in the Startup Type drop down menu

Now click on Start to start the service

Click OK

    Hey my printer did the same thing that yours did that it couldn't recognize my HP printer but i did something that made it work

    Here is what i did

    Type services.msc on the search bar for Windows 8.1

    Next tap services

    Go down on services and check if Printer Spooler is activated

    [Make sure your printer is on]

    If not Activate it Then go to Microsoft Word And Try to print a page

    After this it should start printing all the pages you had in que

    I have tried all of the above with no success. I ran a diagnostic from work and it stated there were no printers installed. Prior to the 8.1 upgrade I had 4 printers. In Control Panel | Program and features | Turn Windows Features on or off, I tried removing and adding XPS services to see if that would install the XPS driver with no luck. Under print and document services I added LPD print service and now all printers appear, I can add printers and print fine now.

    Yep. Same thing happened to me.

    Upgraded to W8.1 and now the usb linked Canon isenys MF8360 CDN printer is unrecognised. Error message 'Windows cannot connect to printer. There are no more endpoints available from the endpoint maker'

    Have contacted Canon and reloaded the drivers and rebooted. Nothing has changed.

    To fair printing has been problematic ever since I received Windows 8. Its now non-functional.

    Not impressed at all with Windows 8 and considering switching to other software.  Microsoft don't appear to have adequately tested it or be bothered about the inconvenience they have caused.

    Have either of you tried the solutions listed on the thread?

    Disable and re-enable all the Universal Serial Bus controllers (USB) controllers.

    The USB controllers represent the USB ports in Device Manager.

    To disable and re-enable the USB controllers, follow these steps:

    a) Open Device Manager.

    b) Expand Universal Serial Bus controllers.

    c) Note: You might have to scroll down the list to find this item.

    d) Right-click the first USB controller under Universal Serial Bus controllers, and then click Uninstall to remove it.

    e) Repeat the above step for each USB controller that is listed under Universal Serial Bus controllers.

    f) Restart the computer. After the computer starts, Windows will automatically scan for hardware changes and

    g) Reinstall all the USB controllers that you uninstalled.
