I have a windows 7 x64 bit with 6 gb ram installed and it boots very slow, and get a lot (and by that I mean A LOOOT) of freezes. Especially on Firefox/Waterfox (this might be software related, not the same problem as the OS one).

I have Malwarebytes installed and found no problems (except a PUP in a firefox file)

Here's a dx diag:

The Event Viewer reports and System Information file reveal that there are maze of errors. I suspect that a number of the errors arise because, in the search for improved performance, you have disabled services. Doing this creates system errors resulting in even slower performance. You need to stop changing services from their default settings. The other problem immediately apparent is that you do not have sufficient free disk space on your C partition.

    Drive    C:

    Description      Local Fixed Disk

    Compressed     No

    File System       NTFS

    Size       107,79 GB (115.742.892.032 bytes)

Free Space        12,02 GB (12.902.207.488 bytes)

You need 25% free disk and you need to defragment regularly. The performance rating for this model drive is not good so it is always likely to be a drag on system performance.

A new function was added to Disk CleanUp in October 2013, which is not available in cCleaner. You need to change existing settings to take advantage of the new function. Type Disk CleanUp in the Search Box above the Start Button and press the ENTER key. Click on OK and after the space calculation you will see a window with a list of Files to delete. Use the scroll bar to the right of the window to see hidden entries further down the list. Check the boxes before Service Pack BackUp Files and Windows Update CleanUp and click on OK If you do not see Windows Update CleanUp then click the Clean up system files button. You will see savings every time after Windows has been updated but they are not as significant when it is run after the first time. You need to restart the computer to complete the process.

Please tell me how much free disk space there is after running Disk CleanUp. We can then look at way to increase disk further.

This drive also has too little free disk space but it is less critical.

You have problems with this drive.

You have installed TuneUp Utilities 2014. This is software I would not allow to be installed under my control. To uninstall select Start, Control Panel, Programs and Features, place the cursor on TuneUp Utilities 2014, right click and select Uninstall from drop down menu. Restart your computer.

As you are not using Blue Stacks uninstall it. To uninstall select Start, Control Panel, Programs and Features, place the cursor on Blue Stacks, right click and select Uninstall from drop down menu. Restart your computer.

As you are not using Futuremark SystemInfo uninstall it. To uninstall select Start, Control Panel, Programs and Features, place the cursor on Futuremark SystemInfo, right click and select Uninstall from drop down menu. Restart your computer.

What is your computer make and model? If not a branded computer what is your motherboard make and model?

Click on the Start button and select Control Panel, Administrative Tools, Services. Locate Function Discovery Provider Host service in the list. Check that the StartUp type is Manual. If it is not set to Manual right click and select Properties, General tab. There is a box after StartUp type. The options are available on a drop down by clicking on the arrow down to the right of the box. Make the change and click on Apply and OK. Click the Start button to check that the service can be started.

Click on the Start button and select Control Panel, Administrative Tools, Services. Locate BitLocker Drive Encryption Service in the list.

Locate Credential Manager in the list.

To identify what loads when you boot use Autoruns (freeware from Microsoft).

    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/bb963902

Select File, Save, change the “Save as type” to Text file type using the Scroll to the right and click Save. Please upload the file to your OneDrive as a shared file and post as a link here.

Do you use Safely Remove before disconnecting removable devices?

I removed these programs, put these services on manual & here is the autoruns file: https://www.dropbox.com/s/zr6zsjteoq25kav/AutoRuns.txt

No, I don't use Safely Remove. But the drives that are connected are almost never disconnected, even the USB.

Also, now I have 13,4 GB free in C:\

To troubleshoot most computer problems it helps to look at available clues in the System Information file and the Event Viewer logs. An experienced eye can pick out the needles in the haystack and see more clearly the precise nature of the problem or problems.

Please provide a copy of your System Information file. Type System Information in the Search Box above the start Button and press the ENTER key (alternative is Select Start, All Programs, Accessories, System Tools, System Information). Select File, Export and give the file a name noting where it is located. Do not place the cursor within the body of the report before exporting the file. The system creates a new System Information file each time system information is accessed. You need to allow a minute or two for the file to be fully populated before exporting a copy. Please upload to your OneDrive (formerly Sky Drive), share with everyone and post a link here. Reports in normal mode preferred. Please say if the report has been obtained in safe mode.

Please upload and share with everyone copies of your System and Application logs from your Event Viewer to your OneDrive and post a link here.

To access the System log select Start, Control Panel, Administrative Tools, Event Viewer, from the list in the left side of the window expand Windows Logs and select System. Place the cursor on System, select Action from the Menu and Save All Events as (the default evtx file type) and give the file a name. Do the same for the Applications log. Do not provide filtered files. Do not clear logs whilst you have a continuing problem.

Please upload and share with everyone copies of your Diagnostics –Performance Operational log from your Event Viewer to your OneDrive and post a link here.

To access the log select Start, Control Panel, Administrative Tools, Event Viewer, from the list in the left side of the window select Application and Services Logs. Expand and then expand Microsoft, Diagnostics -Performance. Place the cursor on Operational, select Action from the Menu and Save All Events as (the default evtx file type) and give the file a name.

    Hello Faux,

    Welcome to Microsoft Community Forum.

I understand the inconvenience that you have to go through due to performance issue. The computer could run slow due to various reasons, like third-party application conflicts, corrupt files or virus. Let’s try to identify the actual cause and troubleshoot accordingly.

I would suggest you to try the following steps:

    Step 1:

Boot the computer in safe mode with networking and check if the issue persists.

Safe mode starts Windows with a limited set of files and drivers. Startup programs don't run in safe mode, and only the basic drivers needed to start Windows are installed.

****Refer this link to boot the computer in safe mode with networking:

    http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows-8/windows-startup-settings-including-safe-mode

    Step 2:

If the issue does not persists in safe mode then perform a clean boot to check if any third party application is causing the issue, as clean boot helps in eliminating software conflicts.

How to perform a clean boot in Windows: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929135

Note: After troubleshooting, refer to this section ‘How to reset the computer to start normally after clean boot troubleshooting’.

    Additional information:

Windows 8.1, Windows 8 or Windows 7 hangs or freezes

    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2681286/en-us

Note: Any data files that are infected may only be cleaned by deleting the file entirely, which means there is a potential for data loss

Hope this information is helpful. Please do let us know if you need further assistance, we’ll be glad to assist you.

    Thank you
