Hello,
I remember I installed Avast Free 2014, then maybe afterwards it caused my apps to show those arrow down signs and not be 'live'. Is it really because of Avast Antivirus?

I had installed Windows 8.1 and had this problem.
Simply uninstalled and then re-installed each one and now the problem is gone.
THIS is the solution to the problem.
You have to manually delete and reinstall each and every app that doesnt't update on its own. Only Microsoft apps show this problem, all the other ones do not need to be reinstalled.
Please note that this problem is NOT related, in any way, with Avast.

The Down Arrow just mean its downloading or in the download queue... It takes a little while. Mine took about 3 hours to download all Apps I have.
Interesting response.
It may mean that something is pending an update but no update is occurring since I checked background processes, network traffic, CPU use etc. The arrow showed up about 2 days ago. I'd say that's a download queue.
It would be helpful if Microsoft explained that to people in the help files.

Well, maybe not. I have a very fast net connection, and I never had this problem before.
Just apply the latest patches from Windows Update, and they will be solved.

Same problem here. Spent hour on support with Dell and they said it was Avast. So I uninstalled Avast and still have annoying arrows. I thought they were letting you know which Apps needs updating which would have been cool, but they don't do anything. They are on my Dell XPS Desktop AND my Dell 7000 LapTop!! Hello Microsoft and you fix your product??
