Inability to Uninstall Windows.NET Framework 4.5 and Other Versions

My current OS is Windows 8.1 64-bit.

Recently I have been coming across a Windows error that states this: "The application was unable to start correctly (0cx0000135). Click OK to close the application." This error occurs for a variety of applications, such as GeForce Experience.

Another error that has occured is the inability for any application to start up at all. While 0cx0000135 error wasn't happening too often, this error of a program telling me that it is about to start then not doing anything is popping up fairly often, like for XSplit. I have XSplit on my taskbar and I click it and it begins to start up, but then it suddenly just stops. And this has been going on for MANY applications.

I'm not getting any errors with my system aside from those two, and everything that I have looked up about the application error leads me to believe that my Windows.NET is not functioning properly. Many sites recommend un-installing it and then re-installing it, which I have found myself incapable of doing because it doesn't appear in the "Programs and Features" part of my "Control Panel". I've tried deleting the files of c:/Windows/Microsoft.NET and that didn't work because many of those files could only be modified by the "TrustedInstaller", even after attempts to change the capabilities of the users.

Also, I believe that I have version 4.0 or version 4.5 at the latest (even though I honestly can't tell), but when I attempt to download 4.5.1, it tells me that I can't, even though I believe that I do not have version 4.5.1.

So I would like to know what I can do to uninstall the program safely and then re-install it.

After all this I am still running into issues even though I thought everything was fixed and I've tried most everything I have found, though not everything. All I can say is that I've pretty much come up with the fact that it is the .NET Framework that comes with my OS that is malfunctional. I ran the methods listed here as well: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/976982 on top of doing everything that was listed in this thread.

So I am still left with the question if there is any definite way I can un-install my current Framework from my OS even though it came with Windows 8. Or perhaps there are some Windows 8.1 clean-up tools that are available or something like that.

I have managed to get a few things working, though, and I made sure that I fixed that CNBJ2530.DPB" of prncacla.inf issue because the sfc/ scannow command tells me that there are no issues, but I did not make another text document to see the results. One thing I got working was GeForce Experience all though it doesn't run as fast as it should. I start it up and it takes 20+ seconds to start, followed by a " unable to connect to nvidia try again later" message, followed by the program starting up. But I should be able to download drivers in the program and I can't because it keeps telling me to check internet connections, but I can download drivers from NVIDIA's site perfectly fine.

Apples....

Is it a PC or a laptop?

If it's a laptop, you cannot uninstall 8.1 which would be the only way to remove .NET 4.5.1 since the latter is only installed when you upgrade to Microsoft's latest incarnation of Windows.

And I've just read that the8.1 upgrade destroys the manufacturer's Recovery partition so that you can no longer use it to revert to Windows 8.0

If it's a PC and you have an installation disc, then you can reinstall Windows 8.0 again , sort out your .NET problem  and then upgrade to 8.1 again. The latter will include .NET 4.5.1 of course and might place you back in the same boat you find yourself in now.

If you reformat, everything will be wiped including .NET Framework.

When you reinstall Windows 8.0, you'll get .NET 3.5 (which includes earlier versions), 4.0 and 4.5 automatically.

What you should do after installing all the drivers for your system is to download  all the patches from the Windows update site.

If you get any problems updating Windows 8.0, run this Fixit: https://support.microsoft.com/kb/949104/en-gb

Then it'll be time to upgrade to 8.1

After you install that, be sure to install these two Rollups. They're offered as Optional updates, so won't install automatically, but they each contain many fixes which might prevent issues in the future even if you don't have them now.

Thanks for the compliment by the way. Always nice to know :)

So all this and I may be finally beaten by the fact that I do not have the product key with me.

The disc is currently in my PC and I ran the set-up, but it requires the product key. I had my PC built for me and I discarded most if not all boxes for the original parts. So will I have to manage to get support somehow or do any files on the disc or anywhere on my computer, for that matter, contain the product key?

EDIT: I have the small package that contained the disc, but I see no 25-character key, I think. I see a 14-character text under a small bar code and an eight-character text above said bar code and to the right of another. I'm not sure if these are significant at all though.

It depends on what kind of license the store has which determines whether they should provide you with a product key or not.

If Windows 8.0 was installed using the Microsoft Volume Licensing program, then it may be possible to contact the store and ask them if they'll provide you with one since they haven't provided you with the COA (Certificate of Authenticity). The store is legally obliged to affix a COA to the chassis somewhere.

You can view a picture of one of those here: http://www.microsoft.com/oem/en/licensing/antipiracy/pages/COA_hologram.aspx

Have you looked underneath the PC to see if it's been affixed to the bottom?

Otherwise, Scroll down to the section called "Activation" on the following site and then open the link to: "Which customers and products are required to activate": http://www.microsoft.com/oem/en/licensing/sblicensing/pages/licensing_faq.aspx

I found my CoA and managed to use the 25-character code to proceed. However...

The only option I have on "Choose what to keep" is nothing and I do not have anything in which I can store my files except for one USB flash drive and a laptop and an old PC's hard drive, which will be explained further on. I am suggesting that I can't copy over all of the necessary files to this flash drive and that, even if I do, the laptop may not be able to take some of the files because it is Windows 7 and some other issues, perhaps. I am just suggesting this and don't know, of course, but I do not that one time when I tried to copy some files over to the flash drive it did not work.

The "Help me decide" option on the "Choose what to keep" page gives me a link to this site: http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkID=12416 but the link doesn't really provide me with anything I can do to help me with the issue, even though it says "Note: If the only option you see is nothing, you can get more info online at:  http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkID=12416"

I have an ANCIENT PC with a hard drive in it and I am only using something like 180GB of space on my current hard drive. But that PC was running Windows 7 and I am also unaware as to how to install a hard drive into the PC correctly so that the PC recognizes that I have two hard drives.

There is an option saying that all my personal files would be moved to "windows.old", but I don't know exactly what that entails and how I would manage to use those old files again.

I'm really just looking for my best option(s) out of the limited ones I have.
