Windows 8 high disk usage caused by Tiworker.exe

I suggest you don't do anything active on your computer for an hour or two, while checking resource monitor (task manager -> performance -> resource monitor is a link at near the bottom of the dialog box) once in awhile.  TIworker may be doing what it is supposed to do - updating your system.  My seldom used second system had 107 updates to apply when I cranked it up.  I let it run, and when it was finished updating TIworker finished as well.  The updates were being applied by McAfee Security Center. If you are doing other things the updates will not finish as quickly, because often updates are applied as low priority background tasks, which wait until the computer is not being actively used. Also, you will probably need to do a restart to finish installing the updates. That being the case check resource monitor again when the system comes back up. When everything has settled do a second restart and again check the resource monitor. If you have done this and still have a problem you can: This PC (icon on the desktop) -> right click -> manage -> Event Viewer -> Applications and Service Logs -> Microsoft -> Windows -> WindowsUpdateClient -> Click on Operational. In the results box, sort the columns (click on the column header) on Date and Time, and move the right bar up or down as needed to find errors. Click on the error, and see if you can decipher what may be causing the problem. A second place to look would be in the same area: Event Viewer ->Windows Logs -> Click on Application.   Same thing: except sort on Level to look for any recent errors.  Do the same with the other 4 keys (System, Security etc.) The System key is usually pretty helpful. With that information you may be able to discover if there is a problem, and whether or not it needs fixing. Long story short

• don't do a workaround on something that works. Second, the OS has a million or so lines of compiled code, which can get pretty hairy to diagnose. If you get in too deep its pretty easy to muss up. That's why workarounds don't always work.

For me I came across it several mornings after the computer had been on for over 18 hours doing nothing that I had started as I leave it running 24/7 so unless it had more work to do than it could manage in 18 hours several days in a row then it has a problem as my system is not a slow one and it has 16 GB of ram also windows is run from a 512 GB SSD why any operation would take more than this is a problem.

The only time I think the computer may take longer than this to run a program is if I was rendering a full length movie

no indexing program should last this long even when I de frag my larger hard disk (5TB) takes less time.

After days of testings and searching of the internet, I finally stopped this high disk usage madness that has been crippling my Windows 8.1.  What I did was to delete the 'Updates' directory in Windows\temp.  (Right-click on the lower-left window icon and select run; then enter temp and hit ok; then delete the Updates.)  I am not sure if it is only a temporary fix.  But at least the disk drive can get a much needed rest now.  There seems to be a problem getting the automatic Windows 10 update into the system.  I am not sure if this is the cause of the whole problem.
