Windows 8 high disk usage caused by Tiworker.exe

Do I need this, what does it do? Can I remove it safely?

Hi Greg,

TiWorker.exe is Windows Modules Installer Worker. It is related to Windows Updates.

Method 1: I would suggest you to run system and maintenance trobulshooter and see if that helps.

a) Press Windows key + W key on your desktop.

b) Write Troubleshooting in the search box on the upper right hand corner.

c) Select the Troubleshooting option obtained after the search.

d) Click on View All option present on the top left corner.

e) Select the System Maintenance.

f) Click on Next to perform the System Maintenance troubleshooter and follow the steps.

Method 2: To resolve the issue with TiWorker.exe, check for updates in Windows Updates and install them.

a. Click on the Windows + X keys and select Control Panel.

b. Click on Windows Updates, in Large Icons View.

c. In the left panel, click on Check for updates.

Method 3: Perform a Clean Boot to see if there is any software conflict as clean boot helps to eliminate software conflicts.

Note: Follow How to reset the computer to start as usual after troubleshooting with clean boot from article KB929135 to reset the computer to normal mode.

I would suggest you to run online virus scan to check if the issue is with virus.

Thanks for your suggestion, I use AVAST! Internet Security Pro(PAID) & it found 0 problems, my thinking is I have inadvertently deleted needed files from WinSxS folder which was stupid on my part as I know not to mess with system files not knowing what their purpose is, I'm sure I'm not the only one to do this but maybe the only one to admit it & not blame it on the OS, LOL. Anyway I had no other choice but to re-install from a clean drive so I took the opportunity to install W10 & I am so glad I did.

I think this is by far Microsoft's best OS to date, so many great user friendly features & navigate with ease, too many changes I like to list but I do particularly like how quick it loads, about same as any Android phone, & the Task View feature when working with multiple windows, I added a sidebar with my favourite gadgets which is Always on Topso other windows dock to it.

After days of testings and searching of the internet, I finally stopped this high disk usage madness that has been crippling my Windows 8.1. What I did was to delete the 'Updates' directory in Windows\temp. (Right-click on the lower-left window icon and select run; then enter temp and hit ok; then delete the Updates.) I am not sure if it is only a temporary fix. But at least the disk drive can get a much needed rest now. There seems to be a problem getting the automatic Windows 10 update into the system. I am not sure if this is the cause of the whole problem.

Hi Shane great reply to this list.

like you I had my machine running great it use to boot up in less than 10 seconds from hibernation and less than 30 seconds from power off with windows 7 which slowed down to around 15 seconds when I updated it to windows 8/8.1 now with windows 10 pro 64 it takes at least 2 to 3 times the amount of time to do also just scrolling down web pages/documents jumps around even though it is only using 10 to 15% or processor power and nowhere near the speed of my internet connection which I am lucky to live where there is virgin fiber connected which gives me 200 Mb speed just about all the time I have been thinking of returning to windows 7 to get back to where I use to be I see no reason why windows 10 should be so slow I have my operating system and all programs on a 1 TB SSD and have 16 GB ram along with a fast processor a i7-3820 running at 3.6GHz native and 4.2GHz on boost if there was any way of speeding it back up to what I had when I first built it I would do it (within reasonable cost) but I have no idea what I could do to achieve an extra speed.
