Original Title: Windows 7 Updates Fail

The updates for Microsoft Security Essentials install successfully.  The Security updates and the updates for Windows 7 fail.  I have tried many of the recommendations after reading the discussions.  No network problems have been noted; Fixit finds no problems to be fixed.  I tried the Win update problem detection troubleshooter.  It fixed a few issues but these remain unfixed:  Win Update error ox80070057 (2014-04-06-T-03_27_14p); Problems installing recent updates.  I would appreciate additional suggestions.  Thank you.

    1. Advanced System Care:  Not listed in Programs and Features as had been uninstalled a month or more ago.

    1.  FixCleaner:  Do not have FixCleaner in Programs and Features.  Do not believe I ever installed it.  Do have **SlimCleaner.**I uninstalled it and restarted computer.
    2.  FixIt:  Ran the Fixit.  Tried to install 2 updates.  They failed:  Code 80070490. Help and Support did not help.  Report could not be generated.  Had previously run Fixit on 4-8-14 and 4-16-14 with the same result and same error code.
    3. System Update Readiness Tool:  Tried again to install.  Noted as Windows Update Standalone Installer HotFix for Windows.  Message "Installing HotFix for Windows 6.1 (KB947821" but it never installed.

    Is Solution you cited to be used to correct the problem with inability to install this tool?

    Thank you.

    Level:         Error

    Description:

    The application-specific permission settings do not grant Local Launch permission for the COM Server application with CLSID {C97FCC79-E628-407D-AE68-A06AD6D8B4D1}

     and APPID {344ED43D-D086-4961-86A6-1106F4ACAD9B}

     to the user NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM SID (S-1-5-18) from address LocalHost (Using LRPC). This security permission can be modified using the Component Services administrative tool.

    Solution

    1.    Make sure you’re logged on as an administrator.

    2.    Click Start, type regedit in the Search bar, then click regedit.exe

    3.    In the Registry Editor, press CTRL-F, type {344ED43D-D086-4961-86A6-1106F4ACAD9B} and click “Find Next”.

    4.    The first result is located in HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\AppID. This is the key we need.

    5.    Right-click the key {344ED43D-D086-4961-86A6-1106F4ACAD9B} in the left sidebar, and then press “Permissions…”

    6.    We first have to change the ownership of the key. The current owner is TrustedInstaller. We have to change the owner to Administrators. Therefor, click Advanced. Then go to the tab Owner, select Administrators, check the box “Replace owner on subcontainers and objects”  and press OK.

    7.    Now that we have changed the ownership to ourself (member of the Administrators group), we can change the permissions on the registry key. In the Permissions window, grant Administrators AND SYSTEM Full Control permissions. Then click OK to confirm the changes. In these 8 steps, we have granted the Administrators and SYSTEM account full permissions to the key HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\AppID{344ED43D-D086-4961-86A6-1106F4ACAD9B}.

    8.    Verify that in this key, the value of LocalService is IPBusEnum

    9.    Click Start, type Component in the Search box, and then click Component Services

    10.    In the Component Services window, go to Computers –> My Computer –> DCOM Config. Right-click IPBusEnum and click Properties.

    11.    Go to the tab Security. In the Launch and Activate permissions section, select Customize and click Edit.

    12.    Select SYSTEM, select the permissions checkbox “Local Launch”. Then click OK to apply the change.

    13.    Done!

    ADW Cleaner seems to have removed a number of parasites, which would have continued interfering with system tasks.

    Uninstall Glary Utilities. Select Start, Control Panel, Programs and Features, place the cursor on Glary Utilities, right click and select Uninstall from the drop down menu. Restart the computer.

    Please use Autoruns to delete 7 entries where the words “File not found” appear. With Autoruns you can uncheck an item, which disables it from starting, or you can right click an item and then delete it. Click the Everything tab and look for the rows highlighted in yellow.

    Please restart your computer, allow 30 minutes for the system to run before uploading further information so that the impact of making changes can become apparent.

    Please provide a fresh copy of your System Information file. Type System Information in the Search Box above the start Button and press the ENTER key (alternative is Select Start, All Programs, Accessories, System Tools, System Information). Select File, Export and give the file a name noting where it is located. Do not place the cursor within the body of the report before exporting the file. The system creates a new System Information file each time system information is accessed. You need to allow a minute or two for the file to be fully populated before exporting a copy. Please upload to your OneDrive (formerly Sky Drive), share with everyone and post a link here. Reports in normal mode preferred. Please say if the report has been obtained in safe mode.

    Please upload and share with everyone fresh copies of your System and Application logs from your Event Viewer to your One Drive (formerly Sky Drive) and post a link here. You can remove the earlier copies of the logs from your OneDrive.

    To access the System log select Start, Control Panel, Administrative Tools, Event Viewer, from the list in the left side of the window expand Windows Logs and select System. Place the cursor on System, select Action from the Menu and Save All Events as (the default evtx file type) and give the file a name. Do the same for the Applications log. Do not provide filtered files. Do not clear logs whilst you have a continuing problem.

    I have tried several times to download and install the System Update Readiness Tool.  Although it downloads, it does not install.  I'll keep trying.
