Windows 8.1 Update is not appearing in the Windows Store

My reasons not to join the Apple Cult differ somewhat, to wit:

1.  They are the ultimate elevation of style over substance.  I prefer substance.

2.  Their marketing is the most emotionally manipulative I have ever seen in any industry.  For cryin' out loud, they try to get you to say "I love you" to their cell phones.  And, what's worse, they succeed.

3.  They get their cult followers to line up around the block for a incremental upgrades that bring their devices almost up to the performance standards and feature sets of the PREVIOUS generation of their competitors' products.

4.  They cost 50% more than their competition at every performance and feature point.

5.  They are utterly proprietary and strictly control what you can do with devices you purchase from them.  I like my property to be mine.

6.  They foster a false sense of security when the only thing that protects their users from malware is the overwhelming numeric superiority of their competition's installed base, making them a less attractive target for criminals.

7.  Their manufacturing is even more similar to slave labor than their competition's, which is bad enough already, but their exploitation of desperate workers does not bring their prices in line.

8.  Most of their products are impossible to service even for something as simple as replacing the batteries, but... (read next comment)

9.  They suddenly render whole families of their products deliberately obsolete, as they just did with iPod accessories when they changed the data connector.

10.  They do not adhere to otherwise universally accepted standards, like SD cards and USB ports.

Everything that transmits data is a backdoor to the NSA, so singling Apple out in that regard is unfair.  And being "Not Windows" is also an unfair criticism, as Windows is similarly not iOS.  Their are enough valid grounds on which to criticize Apple and avoid their products without overreaching.

Don't do it unless you're running a tablet and don't need to run anything outside of metro

8.1 is the worst thing to happen to windows since windows 8....

Just an update fyi.  Ok so today in their infinite wisdom MS expired the preview 8.1 installation.  I had been waiting for MS to sort out all their store launching/dl update issues prior to attempting an update.  This machine is for a small home business it is a stand alone server with various applications (which were not 8.0 friendly ergo the upgrade to 8.1).  I was very disappointed my solution as per MS was to reset the machine losing all data and applications.  Very disappointing.  I can't imagine ever doing something like that in Linux.  This is very illogical.  I imagine their 8.1 preview was close enough to 8,1 all that would be needed more than likely is a folder/bat download to update pertinent files.  Instead my client is inconvenienced (and so am I frankly).  To those reading this thinking well gee sean why not use Win 7 a much more stable OS for your business client.  They are partially disabled and suffering from severe arthritis and a rare form of cancer.  They said that the touch controls I had enabled were wonderful.  Shame this same person now has to wait hours while I am going through such hoops.  I will never recommend another Win 8 machine to a client of my business.  MS really needs to get it together.
