Why I can't download directly the above updates? My Win8 system notifies me of an error is discovered and corrected on line when my INTERNET connection was completely DEAD.(Someone should be blamed for such false notifications). Windows store keeps telling me program updates are on then there is no internet connection when my 50$/month Moderate 2Mb/s connection works well with other systems but dead with Microsoft (Someone should be blamed for that). WHEN I WRITE SUCH ANGRY NOTES TO MICROSOFT THE FEEDBACK CUTS by THANKING ME BEFORE COMPLETING MY SHORT STATEMENT MAINLY WHEN I WRITE (I DON'T TRUST CREDIT OR DEPIT CARDS TOGETHER WITH THE PERSON WHO INVENTED THEM BECAUSE THEY ARE THE MAJOR CAUSE OF PROBLEMS FOR THE WHOLE WORLD .I TRUST THE CASH ON DELIVERY(COD code)Which is being buried by the inventor of CC and DC.

Hi Varviant,

Thanks for posting in Microsoft Community.

I can understand that you have issues that you are not able to upgrade to windows 8.1

Please assist me with the following queries to assist you better:

1. What is the Make and Model of the Computer?

2. How did you install Windows 8 on the Computer?

This issue might occur if some files in the Windows Update are missing or corrupt. It might also occur if there are any pending updates to be installed on Windows 8. This issue could also occur if the update was not installed correctly or the Windows files are misconfigured/corrupt. Please follow the methods mentioned below and check:

Method 1:

Step 1: I would suggest you to manually reset the Windows Updates Components

Press Windows Key + X on the keyboard and then select “Command Prompt (Admin)” from the menu. Stop the BITS, Cryptographic, MSI Installer and the Windows Update Services.
To do this, type the following commands at a command prompt. Press the “ENTER” key after you type each command.

net stop wuauserv

net stop cryptSvc

net stop bits

net stop msiserver

Now rename the SoftwareDistribution and Catroot2 folder. You can do this by typing the following commands in the Command Prompt. Press the “ENTER” key after you type each command.

ren C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution SoftwareDistribution.oldren C:\Windows\System32\catroot2 Catroot2.old

Now, let’s restart the BITS, Cryptographic, MSI Installer and the Windows Update Services. Type the following commands in the Command Prompt for this. Press the ENTER key after you type each command.

net start wuauservnet start cryptSvcnet start bits net start msiserver

Type Exit in the Command Prompt to close it.

Step 2: While upgrading to Windows 8.1, I would suggest you to disable any other devices apart from mouse and keyboard. You can also disable the any external devices such as video card from BIOS. Refer to the manual provided by the manufacturer of the computer to do so.

Disclaimer: Modifying BIOS/ complementary metal oxide semiconductor (CMOS) settings incorrectly can cause serious problems that may prevent your computer from booting properly. Microsoft cannot guarantee that any problems resulting from the configuring of BIOS/CMOS settings can be solved. Modifications of the settings are at your own risk.

Step 3: Update all the drivers for the devices on the computer. To do so, refer to the manufacturer website to do so.

Check the Windows updates for any latest driver updates.
Check in Windows updates if any driver updates are available. If so, install the same and check if it helps.
Press Windows Key + W on the keyboard.
Type Updates in the search bar and click on the icon Windows Update from the search result.
On the Windows Update window, click on the link: Check for updates from the left hand side of the window to receive a fresh list of updates.
If the updates are available, install all the updates listed there.
If the driver updates are not available, then you may try the next step.

Step 4: Update Driver Software from the Manufacturer’s website:

Go to the Computer manufacturer’s website and search for the latest drivers available for the all the devices and then install it by following the instructions given in the website.

Once you perform all the above mentioned steps, you may go ahead and try to upgrade to Windows 8.1.

Method 2:

I would suggest you to try to reset Windows store cache and check. Follow the steps below to clear Windows Store cache memory:

On the desktop screen, press Windows key and R to open run box.
Type WSReset.exe and hit Enter.

Method 3:

If you have a third party security software installed on the computer, I would suggest you to temporarily disable it and see if that’s the cause.

Important Note: Security software can help protect your computer against viruses and other security threats. In most cases, you shouldn't disable your antivirus software. If you have to temporarily disable it to install other software, you should re-enable it as soon as you're done. If you're connected to the Internet or a network while your antivirus software is disabled, your computer is vulnerable to attacks.

Additional information: Before starting the installation, the best way to tell if the computer and connected devices are ready for Windows 8.1 is to download and run Upgrade Assistant, which scans them and tells you if there is anything you'll need to do before or after updating.
