devices and Printers window loads real slow in windows 8.1 and loads fast in windows 7 both are on the same computer as a dual boot system

See my post in reply to Dillon from May 16 for info on how to remove the ghost entries. Do NOT delete anything manually in regedit. Run the devnodeclean tool and let it run to completion, which can take a while (depends on number of entries and speed of your PC, took an hour and a half for my 16,000 entries).
I've got 7222 registry entries under
HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class {533C5B84-EC70-11D2-9505-00C04F79DEAF}
Is this the source of the problem and should I remove them?

It's not the actual VSS storage that's slowing things down but the registry entries that get created every time a VSS volume is attached but are not deleted when it is removed, leaving behind thousands of ghost (greyed out) "generic volume shadow copy" device entries in the "storage volume shadow copies" class.
Actually I see it now running vssadmin list shadowstorage.
I've got hundreds of gigabytes of shadow copies. I guess it must be from running windows backup. So is it safe to delete that stuff?
