Samsung ATIV Smart PC 500T 8.1 Update

Currently, after the 8.1 update, Internet Explorer doesn't work, office is slow, the desktop is slow, and I have a whole host of other problems. Samsung says I need to pay $40 to reimage, but the only reason I updated was because it said this device is compatible at this web address: http://www.microsoftstore.com/store/msusa/en\_US/pdp/Samsung-ATIV-Smart-PC-500T-Tablet-White/productID.265664500.

Both Microsoft and Samsung refuse to refund the $40 charge that is necessary to make my computer work again, and I cannot access the recovery partition on my Samsung device. It is there, just not accessible. Anyone who has information on how to solve this issue, if you could give me an answer it would be greatly appreciated.

I started my own thread trying to get this resolved and sent an email to realtek.

I have researched the way drivers are handled a little bit and since this driver will work until its time to reboot, I have been disabling the device in device manager before shutting the tablet down, then after booting up I enable it again, this has allowed to to function but is a pain. But that being said drivers are handle in a couple of different ways, some are loaded as the system is initializing and some are as plug and play (or loaded on demand) after the system is booted up. It seems to me that this driver can function as plug and play since that is what I am doing manually through device manager, if someone could write the configuration file for the driver to operate like that it might solve the issue.

Anyone know how to do that?

So to be clear: It is a driver configuration error, the driver for the realtek hardware is causing the system to hang during boot.

If your system is hanging, you must restart in safe mode, then go to device manager and disable to the realtek sound device. Then reboot in normal mode and again enable the sound device, thendo not shut down the tablet unless you disable the sound device first.

I keep the tablet in sleep mode when I am not using it, it will wake up fine, but if you shut it down without disabling you will have to do the safe mode thing again. Until they fix the driver this is the only way to have the tablet function with sound.

I have the same exact problem with a Samsung ATIV Smart PC 500T-HA2US, blinking and clicking blue camera light at windows 8.1 update, I've tried 7 times with same result.

Performed steps: Sfc /scannow, Bootrec.exe /fixmbr, Wsreset, update everything and no difference.

I'll try one more time removing the audio driver and see the results.

(I'm the same guy who wrote the last post but on a different machine now.) Just a quick follow up, yes uninstalling the Realtek fixed the problem and I was able to upgrade to 8.1. Just disabling it didn't work, so don't bother trying. Just uninstall. Also, Bluetooth audio DOES still work without the Realtek. Since the onboard speakers are garbage anyway it's really not a loss. HDMI audio doesn't work, that's the only thing I really miss. But the HDMI video does, so you can run a cable out to your TV for the picture and play the Bluetooth audio. It's clunky, but it works.

I had this exact same problem where I was running 8.1 on my Ativ Smart PC 500T and an update came along and killed it (probably the exact same update except I was a month behind installing it), then there's just no way to upgrade back to 8.1 again. Had to revert all the way back down to Windows 8. Then I crawled back out of that primordial soup, reinstalling about 166 updates before I could even attempt to reinstall 8.1 from the Windows store. Finally I get to the point where I can enjoy the experience of the 2.3 GB download again and it failed. It just spins for hours and then reverts back to Windows 8. I then tried installing from a USB drive and same problem. Basically, the unit no longer can run 8.1. And it's really an eye-opener how far we've come from 8 to 8.1. I can't stand Windows 7 anymore but even Windows 8 seems ancient. I find the tablet unusable now with just Windows 8 and I guess I won't be able to upgrade to Windows 10 now. I'll probably drop it off as e-waste and wait to get a Surface Pro 4 with Windows 10 on it from the beginning. I never NEVER want to revert all the way back down to an old version of Windows again! There should be a ONE STEP fix for this, so you don't have to install 166 updates just to try to upgrade back to 8.1 if you originally had 8. This will probably happen to everyone who still has this Samsung product. Probably not a lot of us though. Not enough for anybody to fix it I guess.

I just read the rest of this thread and am encouraged that there's a workaround by removing the audio driver. I'm going to give that a try. I don't really use the audio that much anyway and I think I could live without it. But would the audio still work over Bluetooth or HDMI out? Then it's almost no loss at all. The onboard speakers on the tablet are pretty weak anyway. But if you can at least keep the upgrade path to Windows 10 available then maybe there's life in this tablet after all.

it's crazy to use my tablet without audio driver!!!!

I will not bug other products Samsung and operating system microsoft!!!!!!

I have been using Apple products and I never had these ridiculous problems
