Windows 8.1 Product Key and Activation

I purchased full edition retail months ago. When product key entered it accepts as good yet never changes on my computer. I entered on Microsoft 800# and would not accept. Transferred to tech support and they never came to phone. My computer shows Windows 10 activated and I love it. Strange days indeed

Have you been to the HP support link for upgrade from Windows 8 to Windows 8.1? The link is:

You might help you transition to 8.1.  I have an HP ProBook 655 G1, and when I upgraded to 8.1 it did not invalidate my serial key.  This link should aid in your transition. Also it detects what HP product you are using, and should give you what you need, specifically for that device. My key didn't change until I downgraded to Windows 10.  It did stay activated from 8.1 to all Insider Preview builds of Windows 10 evaluation. I went ahead and installed the Commercial version awhile after release, and then my key was changed and activated. I still continue to get the insider builds, as I opted to continue in the program. We are on build 10547, with no indication that a final build will emerge any time soon. Give that link a try and see if it helps. If you continue to have issues, reply back and I will see if I can find a better solution. As you have experienced, assistance from Microsoft is an oxymoron.  HP is in sort of a love-hate relationship with Microsoft.  So, HP prefers that end users go to them on these types of issue.  Either way, please let me know it this works out.

Also Shenan, in addition to the HP link for upgrading to 8.1, there is also a link from Microsoft that should also be of some help. That link is:

It provides a step by step instruction for this upgrade, and advise for problems encounter in this update.  One codicil regarding the serial key issue.  If the end user has continued activation errors, then re-installation of the OS that came with the HP product will likely be necessary. My ProBook came with installation, recovery, and driver software for W7 and W8.  This is SOP for all HP computers. That being said the user might also reference this MS link addressing this issue from the OS support point of view. That being said, again I will be happy to assist anyone with continuing problems in any way I can.

Microsoft. Sounds like an OE problem to us.

About a week ago, I downloaded Windows 8.1 from MS Store. This was an upgrade for Windows 8 which came installed on my new HP PC.

The download was successful and Win 8.1 installed. However, Win 8.1 did not get activated and I keep getting a reminder screen to Activate Win 8.1.

This Activate Screen asks me to enter a Product Key. It gives me an error code of 0xc004c003 which states that the activation server has blocked my product key. It also gives the last five(5) characters of the blocked product key.

Well, I never entered a product key during the upgrade so I'm not sure where the product key came from.

I did a web search for the last five characters of the product key and it appears to be all over the web.

I used an application that showed the last fifteen(15) characters of the product key in my PC for Win 8.1 and they match the product key that I found all over the web.

It's no wonder that MS has blocked this key.

             

My question is. How do I activate Windows 8.1 since I have no product key.  MS Store did not provide a key with the download.
