The comment about not liking the factory drives was only referring to the factory software that I don't like. Obviously there are advantages to certain technology that is setup by the factory which is why I said it was my preference and not that everyone should do it.
The comment about the rapid start was a joke because with a 5400RPM SATA drive Windows 8.1 starts up from a cold start in about 4 seconds. The Intel SRT is more than just Rapid Start.
I could be wrong about the 40mb partition being used as a Cache for Rapid start it could be used for more but I ma 99% sure it is used for Rapid start too. It is not marked as recovery and the 8GB one is not either which means it is not a random recovery drive

I am curious if people that are having issues with using the Systems Image backup all have Intel Smart Response Technology enabled on the computer. If you look in the BIOS to see if the disk controller is configured in RAID Mode.
When people try to do a systems image which drives are included as required along with the systems drive?
