We couldn't complete the updates Undoing changes; don't turn off your computer

I have a problem with the same error message "We couldn't complete your updates."  I searched for this phrase in Bing and received over 10 million results, and this page was the first result.  I'd like to comment on the fashion in which Microsoft answers questions to their customers.  I'm not upset by the support engineer here at all.  I think he's definitely above average among other MS support staff, which isn't saying much.  But I have these comments.

1. I went to the link provided and found a list of things to try.  Only one of them made sense.  Why not just post the answer in the thread instead of copy/pasting a link?  The possible solutions in the link were sort o ridiculous.  One of which was reinstall windows... is that really a solution?  Another is remove discs from the PC... even the least competent users would probably find these suggestions condescending. 
2. The only suggestion in the link that made sense was to run the windows update troubleshooter.  I'm doing that now, for the past 10 minutes, and I'm not optimistic that it will help.  In almost all of these articles there does not seem to be any concern about whether the problem was fixed, only that the "Answer" button was pressed. 
3. Even if the accepted answer worked (which I doubt) it's troubling that there is no elaboration on why this is happening.  Just a link to another page is sort of like getting transferred just so that the support staff can move the customer along.

My problem is not as severe in that the laptop still reboots.  It just tries to do updates almost every day and fails, and it's really unbelievable that MS and their staff seem so aloof to this.  They can't even knowledge it and it sounds like whenever the problem happens that they either blame the user for doing something wrong or act like they have never heard of such a thing happening even though there are clearly thousands of people mentioning it.

Well done "Microsoft Support Engineer" - really helpful advice there. I can't read the Help file and troubleshooting wizard within Windows Update. Had I thought of that I wouldn't still be fighting with a key domain controller on my network after 5 hours.

There are some errors that are simply a matter of bad timing, and they can be caused by busy websites and slow Internet connections, or a number of other factors (anti-virus program or any other conflict with a third-party program). You might be able to automatically fix some problems by running the Windows Update Troubleshooter.

Also, you can place the computer in a Clean boot state and then install the updates.

To help troubleshoot issues, you can start Windows by using a minimal set of drivers and startup programs. This kind of startup is known as a "clean boot." A clean boot helps eliminate software conflicts.

Why it's not Undoing the changes as it saying?

How do you complete the update after the restore!
