Tried to the new release 8.1 today 10/17. My desktop was successful, but my laptop failed with can't update to 8.1 0xC1900101-0x20017.
I have read a clean install may be required. I have just installed windows 7 then upgraded to windows 8 about one month ago. Is there a way of downloading an ISO image for 8.1 and a key to due a clean install of 8.1 without paying $150.
The laptop is a ASUS U43F with a Crucial M500 960GB SSD.

It would help if they would tell what the problem really is! Is it the BIOS, video driver? Not to many other things it could be seeing it does the same thing with a fresh install from dvd/usb.

I can safely say that it IS a driver issue, and I have tried everything short of a telepathic install..nothing works. Sad that they cannot fix this. After 20 years, I will not purchase another ASUS or Microsoft product. D2M.

I wonder if the windows 9 operating system released sometime in the future will upgrade. I have given up on windows 8.1 but don't have any problems with windows 8.0.
