can't update to 8.1 0xc1900101-0x20017

Tried to the new release 8.1 today 10/17.  My desktop was successful, but my laptop failed with can't update to 8.1 0xC1900101-0x20017.

I have read a clean install may be required. I have just installed windows 7 then upgraded to windows 8 about one month ago. Is there a way of downloading an ISO image for 8.1 and a key to due a clean install of 8.1 without paying $150.

The laptop is a ASUS U43F with a Crucial M500 960GB SSD.

    Hello, I have had 3 one hour sessions with Microsoft in order to identify a fix for updating an Asus U43f laptop to windows 8.1. All the posts I have read sounds like no one with this model was able to successfully update. I will be on the phone next Tuesday with Microsoft with a remote connection to my laptop after a group of MS Tech try to identify the problem and a fix. I will post the results

    just tried clean install today and still got the same error after low level format and clean install from a Windows 8.1 installation DVD. Got the same error on initial screen. There must be a flaw in this update because I get the driver_violation error still and no drivers are installed in a clean install.

    Same problem with U43JC.

    Does anyone know if a clean install will even work?

    Have an asus u43f which updated to windows 8.0 without a hitch. Updating to windows 8.1 never worked but yielded an error code 0xc1900101-0x20017 each time. Tried all the remedies offered on several websides including Microsoft.  Need a fix soon/thanks

    I have the same issue with the same model. I believe it to be the intel video adapter driver. I tried downloading the newest version from the intel site but it would not install. ASUS may have to issue a new video driver for this model. I can't seem to find anything on their website and I already have their suggested driver that worked fine in doing an upgrade to Windows 8.

    Check the status of your drivers be going to Intel's website and using their tool to check driver versions.
