can't update to 8.1 0xc1900101-0x20017

Hi Michael, I have investigated the inability of the asus laptop U43F to upgrade to windows 8.1 with both Asus and Microsoft. My conclusion is to wait a while and see if either one has a work around software solution for the upgrade to 8.1. My U43F works great with windows 8.0 and has not problems with drivers or other hardware issues.  After more that 20 hours on the phone with remote access to my laptop and escalated to the highest level of the Microsoft support team, they came to the conclusion that this model will not upgrade to windows 8.1. If you look at Asus's web site, not all their computers are listed as compatible with windows 8 including our model. Asus was in the dark about this issue until I was able to find an upper management support person at Asus who concluded that this model will not upgrade nor will Asus do anything with it's software/hardware to enable it to upgrade to windows 8.1.

Microsoft did look at all my logs relating to installation of 8.1 and couldn't conclude why it wouldn't upgrade. Those logs were given to the software experts for additional investigation. Since other brands of laptops have this same problem, a fix in the future may be coming.  I recently reimaged my laptop with an known good working copy of windows 8.1 and during boot, it reported that the software couldn't work and gave the same error codes as before. Since an attempt to upgrades to windows 8.1 from 8.0 wipes out all your software and you have to reload, I will wait and observe the blogs until someone reports a successful upgrade to windows 8.1.  Please repost if you find the magic wand to resolve this problem, good luck.

I have tried for hours to upgrade my U43Jc from within Windows 7, and from clean install using USB, both give me driver violation with 0x101 - 0x20017 error. This is clearly an Asus problem.

I just tried to reimage the hard drive of my Asus U43F laptop with a working copy of windows 8.1 and at boot, it gave me the same error as trying to update from MS store. Guess we will have to wait this one out for a while and see if Microsoft has a solution. I still get great performance from windows 8.0 with media center. I have tried most posted suggestions and have run out of ideals.

Hi Chuckc3, I have contacted Asus a few times and requested to talk to advanced technicians since they initially wasn't aware of the problem of upgrading to windows 8.1. Eventually, I got to talk to the technical supervisor who thought that only Microsoft would be doing anything with driver updates.

As I worked with Microsoft techs on the phone and with remote access to my laptop, most of the time the logs on my computer showed a failure to deal with drivers being recognized during the update and not that they were incompatible. After more than 20 hours of this, we decided to wait a while since this problem was being worked on at Microsoft. I will post more if I find out anything leading to a successful upgrade to windows 8.1.  I have not heard of anyone being able to update the model U43F Ausus.

I have the same problem...I've tried several times to upgrade an ASUS U43F laptop to WIndows 8.1 and each time the upgrade fails.  I think the basic problem is that ASUS has not upgraded the drivers for the system to be compatible with Windows 8.1.  If you go to the ASUS site and attempt to download drivers for the U43F, the only drivers available are for Windows 7.  Does ASUS have any plans to address this problem?  I will also post this question on the ASUS site.
