This error may appear for multiple reasons. Some common causes are VPN clients and an unexpected System Reserved Partition size.

Try removing any VPN Clients and attempt the update again.

You might be able to fix this problem by using third-party software to increase the size of the System Reserved partition.

If you have tried both solutions and you still experience Error 0x800F0922 please contact Microsoft Support so that we can further investigate your issue.

Reinstall 8.1 from the online downloaded version and install the updates seperately, with KB2919355 as the last update.

Do you have any idea, hints, etc.  on where this mysterious download is?  I cannot not for the life of me find it...

    Thanks

I still have the .exe in my downloads folder. Full name : "OSGS14-WindowsSetupBox-32bitand64bit-English-4141408.exe" Also, it requires your Windows8.1 Product key.

Maybe that helps? Do you have an idea if I can track the .exe to see from which website it was downloaded?

I believe the file is under Option 2 located at

OK - thanks - this box had vendor installed 8.0 and I've walked it up to 8.1.  I'm not going to have an 8.1 product key.  On a brighter note the problem is resolved and I will update my original post...

After all the head scratching, I finally caved in and called MS support and spent a little over 2 hours on the phone.  It would have been longer but the call ran into the centers quitting time.  Essentially support repeated a few of the steps I took but with a couple of variations.  The significant new steps were –

    Ran DISM /online /cleanup-image /startcomponentcleanup

    Rebooted

Verified KB2919442 was installed (it was)

Downloaded the individual components of KB2919355 from

    http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=42335

Closing time came right as KB2919355 was running and I was instructed to follow the order below -

Clearcompressionflag.exe, KB2919355, KB2932046, KB2959977, KB2937592, KB2938439, and KB2934018.  This took the better part of 2 hours albeit I wasn’t glued to the desk all the time.  A Level 2 call was set up for this morning which turned out to be unnecessary because after installing all of the components w/o any errors the OS seems to be running fine.

On a side note, I would recommend installing EMET 4.1 for additional protection.
