Error: 0x800F0922 when installing KB 2919355

So just spend a couple hours with Microsoft support techs;

The first 2 didn't manage to solve anything and just repeated what I've attempted previously. The last tech I spoke to, spend about 2 hours trying to fix the problem.

He started services.msc and stopped/(re)started many diffirent services I honestly can't remember.

He changed the file "SoftwareDistribution" to .old and then ran a windowsupdate.bat file with various commands. Next he attempted to reinstall KB2919355, KB2961851 and KB2962123 seperately 1 by 1. After about 3 restarts he finally managed to fix 2 out of the 3. But the dreaded KB2919355 still remains.

Finally he created a new Admin account, because it might've been corrupted user files. Didn't help.

I'll be receiving Tech2 help in a couple hours and hope (s)he can solve the problem.

Ugh, this is ridiculous.  How does MS expect even an above average PC user to troubleshoot/fix this ? 

I have no idea (nor do I care) if I have a VPN client or unexpected System Reserve Partition size.

Recently, I was advised by MS tier II support that refreshing my computer appears to be my best option.

What a PITA wasting 15++ hours with MS tech/phone support and reading countless posts trying to understand all this the past several weeks. 

Not to mention that it probably will take an additional 6-8+ hours to update and restore programs/apps if all goes well after a refresh which seems inevitable.

All I know is that my almost brand new computer worked great before this 8.1 update business.  Quite sad for all of us who have to deal with this mess.

Perhaps I'll hold off for a few more weeks to see if a user friendly and/or miracle fix comes out before going the refresh route.

I had all options ticked and needed to run 3 times before no more issue found. Unfortunately, I didn’t make any notes on exactly what have been removed.

Just spend nearly 3 hours with a Tier2 Tech;

After toying around with some settings in msconfig (I assume for a clean boot) and stopping/(re)starting some services, she attempted to install the KB2919355 again. Same result.

Immediatly she proceeded to do a complete reinstall of the 8.1 version of windows, downloaded from a Microsoft website. I'd provide the website, but I lost my browser history after the reinstall.

*BEWARE This process takes a long long time (over 90minutes) even on above average systems*

After the complete reinstall of 8.1, there were 17 Important updates. She tagged all EXCEPT KB2919355!

Installed the updates and restarted the computer. After the restart, she installed KB2919355 seperately.

SUCCES!

I immediately noticed the KB2919355 file was significantly smaller than it was before. Before the 8.1, the file was about 700MB, now barely 175MB. There must be something important that's missing from the disk install compared to the downloaded version.

So to sum up all the solutions the techs and myself have attempted ;

- DISM and SFC commands with Administrator Command Prompt

- Run CCleaner

- Increase of the System Reserved Partition to 1GB+

- Disable Anti-Virus, VPN Clients and Firewalls

- Perform Clean Boot

- Disk reinstall / Format

- Rename SoftwareDistribution to .old

- Run windowsupdate.BAT

- Create new admin account to work from

• Reinstall 8.1 from the online downloaded version and install the updates seperately, with KB2919355 as the last update.

Hope this helps anyone that still has this issue.

I used my Dell's Backup and recovery Hidden Partition Drive and my laptop is Dell Inspiron 3521 (touch). Recovery  partition size is 7.21GB and 744 MB is free space(found using diskpart). Should I increase my Recovery Partition's size? My C drive have 120 GB free space.
