This error may appear for multiple reasons. Some common causes are VPN clients and an unexpected System Reserved Partition size.

Try removing any VPN Clients and attempt the update again.

You might be able to fix this problem by using third-party software to increase the size of the System Reserved partition.

If you have tried both solutions and you still experience Error 0x800F0922 please contact Microsoft Support so that we can further investigate your issue.

I refuse to arrange a support call with Microsoft and waste three hours only to be informed that they will need to reformat my machine, leaving me to re-install everything again. I guess my only option is to continue waiting patiently for someone at Microsoft to figure out how they managed to screw things up so royally.

Yes! Don't waste time on the phone.  I got frustrated and tried calling these guys.  They clearly have no idea what is causing this problem and will literally waste hours of your time with banal tasks, uninstalling all kinds of stuff, turning off silly registry keys - totally shooting in the dark.  Eventually after your system is all hacked up you will be told to do a fresh install.

This is a known problem without a known solution - M$ needs to spend some time and fix the darn patch already.

As a case in point... 3 month old ASUS laptop with Windows 8.1 installed at the factory.  I was not able to install this patch. I contacted MS support, they opened a support ticket, then proceeded to waste 3 hours while the tier 1 tech mucked about in my system. At the end of this, the patch had not been installed and I was left with a keyboard that no longer worked properly - the "0", "p", ";" and "/" keys would not produce their proper characters - do you know how hard it is to type in a URL *without* the "p", "/" and ":" keys?? The computer was 3 months old, and the keyboard worked perfectly prior to contacting MS support. Of course they escalated the support call (now including the keyboard issue) and had a tier 2 tech call me back the next day. The tier 2 tech proceeded to tell me that it couldn't have been anything their other tech had done and I should contact the computer manufacturer because it was most likely a hardware problem...

The computer manufacturer told me it was most likely a corrupted keyboard driver, with the corruption occurring when MS tech support was mucking around in my system.

I reinstalled Windows 8.1 (back to factory setup). Guess what? the keyboard worked fine! Before I installed *any* other software, I proceeded to update the computer until there were no more updates available. This time KB2919355 installed fine as did the rest of the updates. I then installed all of my other software (MS Office, Firefox, Quicken, etc), and things have been working okay so far. Just can't wait until MS rolls out their next big "mandatory" update...

Bottom line - From now on, I WILL NOT trust Microsoft Tech Support.

Oh, don't expect a solution from MS. Only a minority of their users have experienced this problem so therefore it is not important enough for them to resolve.

    Hi,

    after 3 months, I win...

What i did if it could help.

    • Remove Junos Pulse Client 4.0, i use to connect my office (i used the original client because i didn't know until a few weeks that there is an in-box client). The major problem is that it didn't want to remove so, i used a removal tool instead of the uninstaller...
    • Create a fake vpn connection with the in-box client junos pulse (parameters/modify parameters/network). I just called it "test" with a fake url. The first time, it took more than 2 minutes to create it. The first one was marked as bad. So i deleted it and make a new one which took only a few seconds to create.
    • Used "Windows Repair" from tweaking.com to repair "Windows Update", Firewall, MSI and WMI. Didn't know if it was usefull but i did that.
    • Restarted computer
    • Launched WIndows update, searched for new update
    • Choosed the 355 and let windows update do its job...
    • and "Miracle", after the reboot, i was with the update... Just 30 more updates to do and all is good know, no problem to update...

I don't know if it could work for you but try...

My idea for my case : i broke the in-box pulse client when i install my office's one. When i succeed in removing it whith a tool and make a fake connection with the in-box one, it repaired the client...

What i did which didn't make anything : increase system partition from 300M to 1.5G... Restore WIndows update health, catalog. Uninstall a lot of software... Stop antispyware,, firewall, antivirus,...

Vinpiny35?  What media did you use to reinstall your operating system?

Given that you got back to *exactly* the same spot can you state

    a. what media source are you using to do a reinstall - OEM?

    b.  if OEM - what exact computer vendor/model/build/specs?

    Go to control panel

    administrative tools

computer management and look at the drive space free in each partition.  Is there free space in the small system reserved partions?

    PROBLEM FIXED!!

I had the same problem with my Lenovo laptop. The default "System Drive" was only 260MB. Then I used a software (named: Mini Tool Patition Wizard) to reallocate the disk space. I increased the space of "System Drive" to 1GB. And the update error is gone now!

I have read this webpage for the instructions of reallocating disk space:

    *FIXED*

I spent many hours on this error...uninstalled my Juniper PULSE 5.0 client tonight and it applied without issue.  Once back up it had 28 new important updates to apply.

So in  the end it was the VPN software that needed to be removed.
