That's wonderful that you asked... Where pray tell is this media then?  It's not only NOT available from Microsoft, you have no idea if they will release said media, and common sense dictates that if they haven't released it as of now, they're probably not going to.

It seems from many of your opinionated posts that you hold Microsoft on this holier than thou precipice.  Do you really believe you're the only moderator or experienced Windows user to ask this of Microsoft over the past 2 months?  As of today, most, if not all, Microsoft employees who are moderators are still posting for consumers to "Refresh/Reset" instead of doing a repair install (which has been around since Windows XP).

I deal in reality, not faith and hope... I'll leave that to you and others.  Since this media is not available to consumers through Microsoft, are you seriously implying that end users need to wait for Microsoft to release an ISO that will more likely never come and sit patiently waiting while Microsoft blocks them this week from any further patches to 8.1?  This is like trying to explain evolution to a bible thumper... it's absurd.

If this was week one, possibly week two, and you had posted the above, I'd 100% agree that we should give Microsoft a week or two to see if they will... however, this isn't week one or two, it's almost weekfourteen.  Microsoft has done more at this point to misinform end users than helping them and to believe that days before the cutoff of all further patches Microsoft is going to change what it's been doing for the past 14 weeks and have a change of heart is not only absurdity and being naive, it represents a belief not even remotely grounded in reality.

I have the dism restorehealth component store error (was able to download update) but I can't do a repair install because I can't seem to get the Win 8.1 iso. I tired following the directions but because my Toshiba has OEM product key for Windows (attempting to download retail 8.0 first). So I can't even start the process to get the 8.1 ISO because my 8.0 product key is tied to an OEM version. Maybe I'm beyond my abilities here, but I can't even do a in-place repair install.

Microsoft needs to take ownership over this and hopefully release fixes next week. This is getting ridiculous - Windows 8/8.1 has been a nightmare.

An ISO can be found by asking friends and co-workers if they saved the 8.1 installation media when they went from 8 to 8.1, installing windows 8 in a virtual environment and grabbing the files when you update the environment to 8.1, or on a software forum.

Still working on it obviously.  But blaming the customer here - telling them it's their responsibility because they merely used their computers isn't helping either JW.   Ultimately the buck stops at Microsoft. 

Sometimes Microsoft surprises me.  And they often do it when it's the right thing to do.  This is one of those times.  I'm a Pollyanna for sure, I look at the good.  But I don't hold Microsoft on any pedestal here, I just point out to the powers that be what is good business and good policy.  The current state of affairs is not good business nor good policy.   I know I'm not the only person asking for this. 

But in the meantime can we both tone down on blaming the people in this forum for actions that aren't their responsibility?  Neither one of us is helping folks and quite frankly being upset with any customer for being confused after all the posts on this forum, isn't helping people and ultimately that's what these forums are about to help folks, not blame them for something that wasn't their cause in the first place.

People upgraded from prior versions - supported by Microsoft

People installed antivirus - supported by Microsoft.

Merely using a computer should not render it unpatchable.

I personally would recommend contacting Microsoft support 1-800-microsoft and indicate that folks are still having issues installing KB2919355 and need a repair install.  The support folks there can help them through the process.  It's up to Microsoft to provide the repair iso (and in some of the cases I've been monitoring, they have).

I appreciate your help, but I don't know anyone that has done this and really I don't know anyone that has 8/8.1. My circles don't include many computer savvy people. The fact that we are being asked to fix something that Windows Update did seems very wrong. Most people who have computers have no idea how to do these things. Microsoft has really blown it this time in my opinion.
